Today was my grandson's 4th birthday party at my daughter's house. Pizza, pasole, and various other delights. Of course there was cake.

That's his aunt helping him cut the cake. She baked and decorated it as well!

In late October of 2023 we saw a newcomer to the music game, one Sir Kadly. His wide ranging taste in music raised the game, and we welcomed him warmly. Kad also participated in the other threads hosted by music game regulars, demonstrated humor and thoughtfulness, showed forth as a friend.

He eventually gave us a brief overview of a recent history of unexpected events that severely disrupted his life, and because of their impact, described himself as "an anti-social introvert". We saw a soul in deep blue, working, going home, taking care of the cats that appeared to be his only company, not much else.

We hope the healing hand of time has cheered him and given him courage and hope. Kad's recent posts about his discoveries and activities seem to indicate he has begun to feel the sun's warmth in his soul, and so today we convene to wish him a joyful celebration of another year gone and a new one beginning.

Happy birthday Kad, from your friends @Jimi, @2WhiteWolves, @gopher_byrd, @SnapDragon NY, Bliss Doubt, and the ninja.

We'll start the festivities with our favorite music game family birthday serenade:

The "woke up this mornin'" blues birthday, for a nail in the foot, a crushed thumb, all that has come and gone, never to return.

Your cake from the VU specialty bakery, is the "choculele".

These are your people on cookies. The two butterflies are Bliss and Doubt. You'll recognize everybody else.

Though the party room of Kadly Castle has separate areas for snacking, games and conversation, it was a bit chilly. For your birthday present, our masonry professional Wolfie built you a custom fireplace to make it cozy:

This party is for what humans were born to do: Celebrate, enjoy music, play games.

You see the feast on the table above, a magnificent prime rib from our pit master Goph, home made tamales from Jimi (with some of Goph's green salsa on the side):

From Wolfie, a freshly made shepherd's pie. Snap brought you a lovely bottle of VSOP. After all that rich food and drink we can get healthy again with fresh fruit from Bliss.

For games, the axe throwing court is in the basement, no need to worry about February weather.

We'll have a drawing the sword from the stone contest, weather permitting:

We have coloring books and knight crayons (hey, some of us need the therapy, don't judge!).

And music!

So let the festivities begin while you receive your birthday cards, next post.

The best parts of our online parties are the elements that are real, like the food we really cooked, our real pets sometimes included, our gardening and decorating, etc. It's fun planning as a group of friends.

The fireplace in the above party room is based on the real work of Wolfie the stone mason. We thought it would be interesting to remember with her the creation of this magnificent piece. Wolfie said:

This job was difficult. It was in the basement, so moving materials down the stairs was impossible. Much had to be hauled from the front of the home to the back, and in through the basement window. It was a challenge, and seemed to take forever doing it this way. You can see the sizes of big rocks we had to get through the window, along with buckets of concrete.

At most jobs we don't get to know the home owners, but in this instance, working in the basement, we got to know them. They allowed us to use their kitchen to warm up our lunches and dinners, eat at their table and use their bathroom, very nice and unusual courtesies. They had two doggies, both of them part wolves. It was the highlight of each day to see them, pet them and get to know them too. They would come up to the window and one would jump through, lol, and didn't want to go back outside. Owners said they are not usually friendly with strangers, but they were with us. Another bonus, the owners allowed us to bring our Emma, thank goodness because we had quite a few long days. The owners really liked the work we did, and called us back to do their basement bathroom in the same type of rock.

(end)

So now we have a peek into the life of our friend who takes pride in beautiful work, and when I said "I really wish that party room had a fireplace", stepped up to offer pics of some of her jobs to choose from. It's the love that endures. "Rock of ages" is a meaningful phrase.

Are ya home from work now Kad? Did you have a good day?

Do they give you birthday cake at work?
I took the day off. Been home all day except for a couple hours this afternoon to go to the doc. Guess it was a good day, even if the doc did list me as having a permanent partial impairment, 2% of my thumb. Which using some strange math developed by the AMA somehow 2% of my thumb equals 1% of my body, must be that new math I hear people talk about because I'm pretty sure that's closer to .01% than 1% but whatever.

My friend tells me that may qualify me for a small (small being the operative word) payout from workman's comp but I'm not sure. The PPI classification is just because of the lack of full sensation in the tip of my thumb. And I am now done with the doctor for this injury. And getting my birthday dinner tomorrow night
