My friend and I were supposed to go out for my birthday but I was sick, cough, fever, chills, so I cancelled it. So Friday night she came over and brought food from a Mexican place she'd seen. Just tacos, both hard and soft shell since she wasn't sure what I'd prefer, but omg the shells/tortillas were amazing.:bliss:
They must make their own, I've never had any like these. Slightly thicker than what store bought tortillas normally are and almost bubbly, if that makes sense. And the hard shells were clearly the same homemade tortillas.

That sounds wonderful. Yeah, we have lots of restaurants where they make their own flour (soft) tortillas, but only one or two where they grind the corn, make the masa, and make their own hard corn shells. Those are world class.

So this is an effort to write the way a person speaks when totally congested.

A few years back I had a date at 7pm on a Friday. At 7:45 he'd not shown so I called him. "Where are you?"

Him: "Huh? Oh no, sorry. I hab d'foo. I fell sleep".

Me: "Oh I'm sorry. Get some rest, take care and I'll talk to you soon".

Him: "W'you breeg mbe sm Bexican foo?"

A Texas boy knows the power of the hot chili pepper cure.

Me: "Oh sure. What would you like?"

Him: "Enchlaa, taco, guac, smb ot coffee"

So I go and pick everything up, including the hot coffee, with extra tortillas, ring his doorbell (twice), and he opens the door in his tightie whities. I say "ooh lala".

He's obviously very sick, very fevered. "S'ry I f'got".

So I go in the kitchen and make our plates, come out with them, and he's gone. I peek in the bedroom and he's in bed sound asleep. I sit down, eat my plate, clean up, and regretfully put his food in the fridge.

I go into his bedroom, kiss him on the forehead. "Good night, feel better". He wakes up. "Food ready?"

Gawd, so the food has not had time to chill down in the fridge, though it really is no longer hot and fresh. I make up his plate again, heat up his coffee, take it to the bedroom, set it on the nightstand. He's sound asleep again. I clean up the kitchen again and make my escape.

She actually wanted me to place my order with her for the place we'd planned on going on Tuesday and was going to bring it to me then, but I didn't want to get her sick. She picks up enough crap working in a hospital as it is. So I finally convinced her not to. But she insisted on dropping food off for me Wednesday so I wouldn't have to cook that night. Friday was going to be a going out night, but I was still worn down so asked if we could just eat at my place. Dinner, a movie, first time in the three months we've known each other that she was inside my home. We are both overly cautious due to past experiences so who knows if we will ever get out of our own way, but this week maybe we moved a step or two further in the direction that part of me wants to explore and part of me is scared to explore.
