Strange Fruit
-Billie Holiday

Southern trees bear a strange fruit
Blood on the leaves, blood at the root
Black bodies swinging in the Southern breeze
Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees

Pastoral scene of the gallant south
The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth
Scent of magnolias, sweet and fresh
Then the sudden smell of burning flesh

Here is a fruit for the crows to pluck
For the rain to gather, for the wind to suck
For the sun to rot, for the tree to drop
Here is a strange and bitter crop
-

My hearing is gettin so poor, I guess from workin in factories, but they came out and call names of people to come in and get their blood drawn. They came out once and I could swear they said Jim so I stand up and go for it. She looks at me and says "your not Ray", feelin pretty dumb i had to come up with a good response so I looked her right in the eye and said' That's ok I'm filling in for Ray today" it took a few seconds but she started laughin.
