Hell, I have one wonky old USB port on my desktop computer that won't work with some devices at all anymore. After time, they can be loosened from their soldering or just wear off inside.

I use a separate card reader for the desktop.

they kept falling into sink holes.. and no amount of ajax could scrub that taint away..

i looked around and said the heck with it, i'd stay single.. and i did.. for over 10 years..
no dates, not much of anything, save work and my kid..

then i met my better half.. and well.. it happens, franni..
even after i thought it was all the same, there are some out there, waiting.. and worth the wait..

I have no choice but to wait. I took a personal vow of Celibacy when I made my profession as a Franciscan. Could be as simple as a hair or such in the reader's slot, it could just be worn out or it need it's drivers refreshed?

Try giving the slot a good blow (ha!) and see if it reads things then.

What make laptop is it?

If you've rebooted the lappy and it still does it, might try re-installing the drivers for the reader:

The driver of your SD card reader could be faulty (corrupt, not out of date). You can check this in the Device Manager as explained below.

Go into the search box in the Start menu, type “Device Manager” and select the program, which will be listed a the top of the menu.

You will get a list of device “classes” which are can be expanded to show individual devices. The reader may be listed under “Disk Drives”, Universal Serial Bus Controllers” or elsewhere (sorry, I don’t make the rules…) or, if it is faulty, it may also be listed under “other devices”.

At any rate, try to identify it, and see if there’s a yellow icon with an exclamation mark on it, or a red X. If there’s a red X, right-click on the device and choose “enable”. If it’s the exclamation mark, right click, choose “Properties” and look under the “General” and “Details” tab to find out what the fault is.

If the error is not obvious, there are two things you can try:

1. Uninstall the device (right-click on it and choose “uninstall”), then reboot the computer and let it reinstall the drivers.

2. Try to uninstall USB Root Hubs under device manager. Then reboot, see how it works.

Just tried some of my Morrocan Olive Bread I'd bought...Mmm.

Sliced it, warmed it a bit then spread lightly with sour cream and a sprinkle of garlic pepper.
It's good enough just by itself, but a bit of moisture helps..

Now, I may have to make up some hummus to go with....

Oh no , do you have a full backup ? I would run a few scanners in safe mode, that will reveal it if you have a virus hiding on there . The best scanner that will wipe out just about everything effectively is Emsisoft anti malware scanner . The most effective and thorough scanner i know of and free to use , it takes awhile to update because it covers every nasty out there .

Before you run it run R.Kill , run it as administrator , it's very fast and safe , what R.Kill does it lets you know instantly if malware processes are detected and if they are it kills the processes so your regular scanner can effectively remove the virus without being blocked .

This is not a seniority based forum, I tolerate everyone...or I would have ignored you. I, nor anyone else has asked nor implied that you should change who you are. I did not say or imply that I had an issue with you personally.
Lastly....if being a self styled martyr in this circumstance makes you happy...or if you feel that you are making a point....well I'm not sure what to tell you.
