Ever since I first got my own Pixel phone, I've been recommending them to anyone looking for a smartphone upgrade. They are some of the best iPhone alternatives on the market and come at a relatively low cost compared to the popular flagship Samsung models. So far this year I've found a number of really good deals on the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and the Pro XL and you can realistically get one of these new Google phones for a significant discount in 2025.
There is such a discount today as part of the Amazon Memorial Day sale that is definitely worth checking out. That being said, if you don't actually need a new phone right now I'd suggest waiting a bit longer for better pricing. The Google Pixel 10 models will most likely be releasing in August or September and I expect these prices to drop quite a bit more than they are at right now.
The Best Google Pixel 9 Deals Today
While it's true that all of the discounts featured here are lower than the regular price of the phones, these aren't the lowest prices we've seen in 2025 so far. Earlier this year the Pixel 9 Pro XL dropped all the way down to $599, which is how much the Pixel 9 is right now. I certainly don't think we'll see a deal that good again this year, but with the launch of the Pixel 10 line just around the corner I think we will definitely see deeper discounts than this. I picked up the Pixel 8 for an absolute steal during Prime Day in July last year and I expect to see similar price reductions on the Pixel 9 phones this year.
For reference, the Google Pixel 10 is most likely going to be revealed sometime in August this year. So if last year is anything to go off of, retailers will be looking to unload older models at lower prices so they can start selling the new ones. Pretty much every Google Pixel model still available on Amazon is prime pickings for a discount during this time and it makes sense to wait for Prime Day deals before you buy.
Which Pixel 9 Model Should You Buy?
Between the three available phones on sale right now, we recommend picking up either the Google Pixel 9 Pro or the Pro XL. Both of these options are more powerful phones that will offer more bang for your buck overall.
The main difference between the Pixel 9 Pro and the Pixel 9 Pro XL is the size of the phone. The XL comes with a 6.8-inch screen, which is just a bit larger. Both of the phones come with the Google Tensor G4 chip and offer pretty good performance overall.
What We Said in Our Review
Although we didn't review the XL, our mobile expert Mark Knapp reviewed the Pixel 9 Pro when it first came out last year. Here's a quick synopsis of what he thought of the phone:
"The Pixel 9 Pro is simply a great camera phone. Its combination of sensors and extra Pro controls make it a powerful tool for both casual and intentional photography. Beyond that, it’s a solid smartphone, with ample performance for both everyday use and even some more demanding gaming. It might not keep up with something like the OnePlus 12 or Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra in terms of raw performance, but it may be some time before we see any of the three phones really brought to their knees in typical operation. It would be great if Google’s AI features were more thoroughly baked and played a more obvious role on the Pixel 9 Pro’s hardware, as they currently seem artificially restricted to the phone, but Google’s stumbles on software don’t stand in the way of the Pixel 9 Pro being a great phone in general as much as they keep it from going above and beyond. Its great hardware, slick design, and tame size make it an especially exciting treat for those looking for a small phone without much compromise."
When Does the Pixel 10 Come Out?
Although we haven't gotten any confirmation about a release date for the Pixel 10, we can guess based off of previous years that it will release sometime in August or September this year. This is earlier than the new iPhones by quite a bit, and last year it resulted in some issues with Android 15 not being ready in time for release. Thankfully, Google moved up its Android 16 release date and you'll be able to access the new features as soon as the Pixel 10 comes out.
As for what to expect from the new phones, we only have rumors to go off of so far. We have yet to hear anything about the potential prices of the new phones, but there have been leaked renders of the design. All-in-all, it looks pretty similar to the current generation of Pixel phones.
