American Horror Story: "11/9" Review

Not a moment too soon, Cult -- with this week's "11/9" -- flashed us back to Kai's staging process, paying off a bunch of lingering issues from the first three episodes.

Very light on actual horror (not that there wasn't bloodshed), this chapter arrived in the nick of time, interrupting weeks of Ally turmoil for a look at Kai and those he's recruited into a crazy plot to fill his small Michigan town with fear and paranoia - and then have that narrative go viral across the planet, sending everything spiraling into chaos. From which, we assume, will come the order and control that Kai deeply craves.

Separated into three parts, the episode first gave us Kai recruiting someone we've spent a bunch of time with - Harrison. Then we got to know a bit more about Adina Porter's Beverly Hope, whom we'd only seen briefly, previously, during a news report. Then the kicker, and the reason this episode worked well from a structure and storytelling aspect, we saw - TWIST! - Winter recruit Ivy, revealing that the two of them not only already knew each other when Winter got hired on, but they'd committed a violent crime together.
