I recently had a chance to chat with the real Boba Fett himself, screen and stage actor Jeremy Bulloch. Mr. Bulloch is featured in the recently-released Elstree 1976, a documentary about the actors behind the masks in the original Star Wars films (check out IGN's review here). Over the course of over half a century, he's inhabited roles in story franchises like James Bond, Doctor Who, and Robin Hood. But most memorably, Bulloch played the iconic, fan favorite bounty hunter who outfoxed Han Solo in The Empire Strikes Back and met his end in Return of the Jedi.
Bulloch's candor and humor during the pre-interview pleasantries are striking. He's warm, friendly, and radiates a natural humility. As the tape starts rolling, I ask him about what its like getting into and out of the Boba Fett costume. "Well, you have someone to help you because it is impossible just on your own unless you're a genius," he says. "It's just.. it crosses around your neck, you pull that down, then you've got the knee pads or the knee rolls, what we call them. And that cuts in the back of your knee and you're sweating before you even start the day. It's just terribly uncomfortable. But, I would have done that and gone through that pain to play Boba Fett. That was such fun."
