Anyone get a KBOX kit and think the subtank is junk?

So I wanted to test the KBOX mini kit because I like to play with new stuff.

I started out and I liked it, the whole thing feels a little cheap but it fits well in my hand and it works pretty well.

Then I noticed the subtank is a special, and kinda crappier version of the subtank.

It seems like the air flow options are different than all my other subtanks (I've got all of them) and the bearing isnt quite as "clicky" when you move the airflow adjustment. I also noticed a lot more seepage from the airflow area when resting.

Anyway, it still hits pretty darn good for the price of the kit and its a great starter product but it seems odd that the subtank would look the same at a glance but be a different version just for the kit.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

You're talking Subox kit, right? I don't think they packaged the Kbox in a kit...still, sucks to hear they'd put junk parts in...

That's actually a Subox - I own a Kbox, they look like this:

kanger-kbox.jpg

This is a Subox, which is the only one I've seen sold in a kit - completely different mod:

Yes, I know the KBOX is a different product, I did mention kbox mini in my original post. :p

Anyway if you look at the "sub box" is says "KBOX MINI" on the top of it.

So while the kit is a "subox mini starter kit" the KBOX MINI is the bottom and the subtank on top is seemingly unique to this kit.

News to me, since I don't have one -thanks for the heads up on a rather confusing naming convention.

Yeah,

It really is lame and doesn't make sense, since from what I can see they only sell it in the kit.

The whole things seems rather contrived, but they are usually priced from about 50-80 bucks for the kit which isn't bad for the performance as a beginner subohm product. :D

I should also mention it uses the vOCC coils so they actually wick well and I've gotten zero dry hits.

It's the product that is launching the vOCC coils, albeit silently.

Yea noticed that. Have heard good things about the new vertical occ heads.
Waiting for Kanger to release a vocc ni200 (nickel) heads hopefully some day soon. I do rather like the subtank mini and subtank plus og haven't tried the new dual airflow versions as of yet.

I'm kind of wondering if we're talking about a counterfeit product here. I've never seen a sub tank it meets the description in the OP.

Not counterfeit I checked when I started playing with the tank.

Also if you go to the product link it says something about "improved airflow" and that would be the specific section I'm kinda dissatisfied with.

MFS already has those ni200 coils for sale and listed as in stock, but you need temperature control of course.

I'd imagine they should have them everywhere now

naw m8 those are the original ni200 coils look at the orientation of the coil. I have those already not to impressed with them. I imagine the vertical ni200 will work nicely when they get released.

Oh, yeah your right sorry about that. Silly me.

I think honestly it was a mistake to even sell the original OCC, because the wicking problems were so bad.

Inevitably I'd take just a bit too long a drag or too frequently and just fry the cotton in a single tank.

This isn't so with the vocc version. I can just hammer on it and never burn it.

I'll have to get a temp control device and play with the ni200 when the verticals come out.

so do you think in your opinion that the new dual airflow control ring is to airy or are you referring to the new vertical coils being to airy?

It's gotta be the new airflow.

What they basically seem to have done is make only a 'full throttle' setting. There is now not really any less than full open airflow and no closed position. There are two settings with pinhole airflow and one full double open.

But really the airflow ring feels less solid, and less 'clicky' and I get more seepage from it whe resting, so something isn't quite right on that design.

Why? U can't use a different tank? For example an arctic or an atlantis?

Interesting - so the VOCC coils work good for you right out of the box? I've heard mixed reviews on them - with the horizontal coils I've always had to poke and prod at the cotton before installing to get them to perform above maybe 17 watts...no modification of the new coils needed for you?

I'm pretty sure you can use any 510 tank within ohm limits, but wouldn't it be a bummer to buy a mod/tank combo expecting to get two products you like only to find out the tank part is sub-par and needs to be swapped out?

Yeah, the vOCC work right out of the box for me to the 50w that the kbox mini can do. Not sure beyond that haven't tried yet

the kbox mini will take any 510 but it looks good with the matching ceracoating if you use the provided tank.

with the old horizontal ones I never really fluffed the cotton, but I'd often get ones that would fail to wick well, especially after sitting for a night I would find it failing to wick and needing to prime it.

I just found out today from a kanger vendor that if you order the new subtank mini seperate from this kit it will not include the new style rda. Only the complete subox kit has the new v3 rda.
Also all the stainless steel regular subtank minis will now have the dual airflow control ring and Kanger will be making vertical ni200 coils just don't know when.

Yeah the most recent mini subtank I got (arrived yesterday) and it was a stainless.

It had the new airflow and it was more 'clicky' when adjusting airflow. It also didn't slop about as much when in use on the airflow ring. The ceracoat one has a lot more play.

Perhaps I have a dud, or perhaps the ceracoated version has to have different tolerances to take the ceracoat so it's a little sloppier.

P.S.
The ceracoat one is fully tight, I've experienced this with the stainless ones when the airflow section or subsection is not tight or partially disassembled.
