I never have either. I googled it, went to their site, and it says that it's a natural, degummed, fiber. It doesn't say what it is, though. My guess is that it's hemp. While I can understand their desire to protect their secret of what it is, as a consumer I'd like to know what I'm being sold.

Supposedly it is hemp fibers. From what I have seen it is supposed to have flavor comparable to organic cotton, but a longer lifespan. I find myself rewicking every other day, seems like all I'm doing is breaking in new wicks. They are selling it at a local shop. Thought I might give it a shot

I have organic hemp twine that I have washed, and soaked in everclear for a week. It works well, but still has a bit of an earthy taste to it, not bad with the right juice...

That's interesting. Never thought to use twine

I love it. Use it all the time. Takes a few vapes to really kick in but I have noticed it is a little less brutal then cotton on the warning that a dry hit is coming.

With "hemp" you can see where they got their name from! I've niether heard of "Convicted Vapers" nor "Elfwick", very zen, but would it absorb the juice well ? I know there are great cloths and shoes made from it, but as an absorbing object, I'm going to wait and hear the reports ... let someone else be the Guinea Pig for a while ;)
Good wick material is a constant hassle to find, at least as far as I'm concerned.
Cotton burns to easy, silica ... nah, all those microscopic fibers :( , and SS is great, but it depends on what!
If any one has some advice, apart from Elfwick, I'd love to hear it :D :D

I tried different hemp wicking materials looking for an alternate wick material.

The best of the lot was "Degummed Hemp Top Silver".

It seemed to work just OK and it had a really "Woody" flavor to it.

As a member of the Facebook group for convicted vapers, I was urged to give elf wick a shot, so I ordered 3 packs for $13 shipped and gave it a go. Showed up yesterday, and I immediately went to work rewicking my daily vape tools, a series box, and my right hand, a VA phenom with an Aeolus v2 on top. I have been using rayon the last 6mos or so. To me, rayon has roughly double the flavor that I've ever had from cotton. To me, Elf wick is about 20-25% more flavor than what rayon gives me. From what the maker/seller has told me, it just gets better with time and not to expect to replace it for 6-8 days or even longer. I will keep everyone updated, but so far, I'm loving this shit!

VapeNotik ships quick and their HempWik is super easy to work with. The fibers are straightened and there is no debris. The flavor is incredible and holds more juice than most wicking materials I have tried.

I'm going to have to give this stuff a shot. Even at novelty-level use, what's a couple bucks to maybe find something I prefer more than regular ol' cotton?

Does it change the flavor of your juice in any way (ie adding a "woody" flavor)?

There is a slight natural taste, subtle not overbearing, for the first hit or two. I have tried other hemp that taste like cardboard and hard to work with, this is nothing like that. The only time I have really tasted the hemp is when I don't give the liquid enough time to absorb into the wick.
The flavors(fruity) I use are enhanced with the hemp, not changed in any significant way.

Having trouble finding this company (tried searching FB and google for "convicted vapers," no luck). Point me in the right direction?

Thanks for the info. I want to try it, just tried to place an order, but had issues with their e-commerce setup. Kept getting a "merchant ID" error. :(

I'll try again later.

Elfwick is having a sale, 3 pk for $11 or 12 (I forget) shipped. Give it a go, I've recommended it to several people I know, they like it also. The bags aren't that big, but it's taken me close to a month and a half to go through one bag.

PS....elfwick's site works just fine.

Thanks, it's always nice to save a few bucks. Went ahead and ordered the 3 pack. From your experience, they've been pretty quick with their shipping times? I'll be in the US, at my shipping address from the 23rd to the 31st. Hope it gets there before I head out again.

Hmmm... decisions, decisions... Try it? Don't try it? If try it: One pack, two or three? What if I order three and don't like it? What if I order one and love it? And if I end of loving it: What of my Natural Wicks and Japanese organic?

First world problems

Thanks! I think I'll try again and get both to test out. I have quite a few older friends who I've been helping to quit smoking via e-cigs. Your basic ego, bottom coil clearomizer setup. For the life of me, no matter how often I tell some of them, they can't get out of the habit of holding down the power button for a second or two before bringing the e-cig to their mouth to inhale. A couple days of that, and within a week those wicks are scorched and they're asking me to rebuild atomizers. If either of these alternative materials is a bit more resistant to scorching, it'll be well for the investment wrt my sanity. lol!

Vapenotick site still not working to place an order. Sad face. :(

Emailed them, so hopefully they'll be able to fix it soon. I'll only be in the US until the 31st and would much prefer to get it then.

Done!

I was on the fence. Then, in another thread, somebody mentioned using a dripper to test DIY e-juice. "Now that's a good idea!" I thought. So I bought an inexpensive RDA. And it's RDAs in which Elfwick is said to excel, so...

(But seven days to process the order...???)

I am in no way affiliated with the owner or employee(s) of elf wick, just happen to think its the best thing I've ever used, and I will forewarn you, watch the video on the website, it seems strange but you won't use anywhere near as much as you would cotton or rayon. The first few hits on fresh wicks will have a somewhat woody taste, but if it lasts longer than 10 hits, you've wicked too tight or done something wrong. Let me know what you think of it

Good to know, and I'll definitely post my experiences here. And thanks for your evangelism of the product, it spurred me to try out some organic cotton-alternatives. Would you have a reason to say, from your experience, that it's less prone to scorching than organic cotton? If it would help my 60-70 year old friends have a better experience with their starter eGo setups, it would be worth its weight in gold. :)

You'll get a somewhat earthy woody taste as a "warning" it's almost dry. A full on dry hit is nowhere near as bad as cotton, but dry hit the shit out of it, and rejuice, and you'd never know it had the hell burnt out of it. Flavor is somewhat muted, and it's not as good as originally, but it doesn't leave a burnt taste

I received both my orders, from elfwick and vapenotik. Great and personalized customer service from both companies. You can tell they're both small businesses, that care about each individual order. Made me feel good about transacting with them. Fast shipping with both. Won't be able to play with them until the new year, but excited to see how they compare to organic cotton.

Ok, then: Marquis clone. Single-coil build of 26 ga. Kanthal, eight turns on 3 mm, if memory serves. Came out to 1.15Ω. Removed & tossed the old wick. Gave everything a good rinse under warm water, dried it off (incl. blow-drying with the air hose), pulsed the coil a couple times to burn it clean and check for an even glow. Wicked as per the instructions on Elfwick's site. Very wispy. Rolled it up tight-ish, as it's tricky, on this RDA, to wick. Got 'er done. Chose Mystic E-Liquid Peanut Butter Parfait, a premium max VG, for this test. Primed the wick. Pulsed it a couple times. Wetted it down some more, pulsed it a couple more times. Topped it off, put it together, vaped.

Terrific! Big cloud. Dense. Massive flavour! No woodiness that I can detect. I'm on about the 4th or 5th vape. Maybe 6th, now :), and it's still going strong.

It'll be interesting to see how this material does in a tank, and with a fruit, as opposed to a savoury, but, so far, it seems to be an excellent wicking material.

Got mine in today, ran over to my old Magma clone and whipped out a .35 ohm coil from 22 gauge kanthal - single coil is how I roll on the Magma.

Packaging is identical to what you see on the website, with a generous amount of material in a sealed baggie. There was a letter of thanks in the package as well, with hand written notes of thanks and some randomness thrown in for good measure - I appreciate vendors taking a little extra time to do that sort of stuff unprovoked, nice touch.

Now, anyone familiar with the Magma knows that it's got a super-deep juice well. I figured this would be the best "test" to see how the wicking not only holds the juice, but how well it sucks it up from a well below it and feeds it into the coil.

The fibers are a little mish-mashed in the package, but nothing I couldn't straighten out with some finger work; give 'er the ol' stroke and roll. Once I got a nice, even wick, I threaded it through, trimmed off the ends and stuck the new ends down to barely touch the bottom of the well.

I'll say this: it doesn't act like cotton at first. The juice beaded and sat on top of the wicking without really getting sucked into it very quickly. A little sense of foreboding hit the back of my head, but I trucked on - this is a different type of material, so I've got to give it the benefit of the doubt. Slowly it would seep into it, the juice at the bottom of the wick did a quick job of absorbing into the ends. With slightly more time than with cotton, I got the wick saturated to a comfortable point. That's when I figured out the trick: I pulsed the coil. Everything sitting on and around it was fed quickly in. Rinse and repeat, saturate - pulse, saturate - pulse, three or so did it right.

And the vape that comes off this is righteous. I dig it. Clean, smooth tasting, there's a "tell" when the wick starts running on the dry side and it's easy to pick out, not at all unpleasant, and doesn't smell like a dorm hallway at close-to half-past four in the afternoon (a sneaking assumption I had from the get go, and very relieved that wasn't the case).

So I finished up with flavor one, pulled the wick and tossed it, cleaned the dripper and inserted a new, clean wick. Got it a bit wet, got it wet on the tips, gave a pulse and did "the trick," it took about half the time as the first. Beautiful vape. Beautiful taste, no added taste or anything, no nuance - just clean flavor and thick vape.

Final verdict time, after having used it exclusively for the better part of the afternoon til the writing of this mini-review. Did I say I dig the elfwick? I dig elfwick. A lot. It's hungry stuff, eagerly pulling any and all juice once the flow is started. It takes a smidge more attention to get the fibers to cooperate right out of the bag. It takes a little more attention than cotton to get it saturated, but taking the time is worth it in the end.

I'll say that it's not night-and-day better than cotton - but then I don't find huge differences between 100% Organic Name Brand Premium Japanese Cotton and CVS Brand Cotton Balls straight from the bag, either. It's different, but I'd personally set it on the shelf just above cotton. I really like this stuff, and judging from the two wicks I've made so far, versus how much comes in a bag, it's going to go quite the distance. I'll be buying a couple more bags to stock up. I'm also excited to get this stuff in my Crius and Lemo 2 - I'm sure that it'll work wonderfully.

TL;DR - Picked one up because I'm a sucker for gimmicks, and curiosity doesn't play well with me. I'm glad I did - I like it, good stuff. Clean vape, hungry fibers that love juice, great stuff and worth the price. Doesn't smell bad or funky, good and clean. Burley gives two thumbs up, then hooks them back on his belt loops.

More results. As noted: Elfwick doesn't burn as badly as cotton, and it recovers better when you do dry-hit it, but do that a couple times and you'll definitely notice the difference. It holds less, so it runs out faster. And each time you dry hit it, the results more-and-more resemble cotton.

Moral of the story: When you sense that "tell" to which @burley referred: Get that wick some juice if you want it to keep performing well.
