Director, producer, writer and all-around comedy royalty Judd Apatow recently weighed in on why there are fewer comedy movies today.
When asked in an interview with Vulture why we're not seeing more big budget funny movies, Apatow said it's a little more complicated than just blaming studios. "When you make the list of the best movies of all time, you’re always going to put Airplane! on it. And if movies like that aren’t being made right now, it’s because people aren’t smart enough and funny enough to make them," he said. "I don’t think it's a result of studios or audiences rejecting anything."
