Are Mechs going the way of the Dodo?

In my recent search on trying to find a new Mech setup, I went to three different B&M vape shops in 3 cities around here and only one had a Mech mod..(not only one kind...they only had one).
Is this just an occurrence that’s happening in my neck of the woods or has anyone else found it difficult, if not impossible, to get Mechs any other place other than online?

Where I live none of the 6 shops within a 15 mile radius carry mechs, in fact most are not even replenishing their rebuildable supplies. The money is in pod set ups and juice.

Luckily we can find everything we need online and if I want to drive an hour to Toronto I have Enushi and ecigarettes.ca to shop from.

a few shops in my area may have clones and really high end mechs but only a few if at all.
most went the route of higher wattage regulated most likely for the "Safety" and to make it easier for their local base to use... "just drop a coil in right... "
i have time and time again had to educate local vapers about of all things the deeming and they should prepped for the long haul.
the sad thing is most where shocked and said well if that happens i will either quit or go back to smoking... "you know its easier than actually being an advocate" i think alot of my local shops if not all will up and disappear once they can no longer turn a profit. after all they all just about fail at spreading the word and are just after that sale. the only shop that at least is a bit different i support the rest i avoid.

Don’t forget the CBD oil sales, they’re raking in the cash here. They recently passed medicational “substances” in my state and they started selling the oils at the state minimum allowed THC levels and when I just curiously asked how much for a 0% THC-CBD oil I I found out they’re selling it at $41 for a 15ml bottle of the stuff.
Oddly enough, the clear counters that used to have the Mech mods is now just a ton of CBD stuff.

It's a bit different where I am, the vape shops don't sell those products here. We have plenty of specialty shops that do, not our B&M vape shops though.

It just started up here and I think they only have a few dispensaries...and people don’t research anything on it before jumping in. I don’t know if the laws are the same where you are, if you get a card letting you get it, you forfeit your 2nd amendment rights here...I’m from the south and taking my right to bear arms is a non-starter.
People here also think it’s ok if you test as positive at work, nothing bad can happen if that’s the only thing in their system and you have a card...if you work for a company that trades publicly on the open market, that means they have to follow the Federal guidelines rather than state, which still classify it as a drug you can be fired for.

In my neck of the woods there's hardly any pure vape shops left. They are almost all becoming vape/head shops selling CBD and accessories for substances which are not legal. It frankly irritates me that vaping and the other are seemingly linked together.

AS to the OP's question, It seems mechs have become a niche market. Those of us that enjoy mechs seem to be a small percentage of vapers. The average vaper has one or two setups consisting of a mod with tank that takes factory coils or a pod system. The average vaper doesn't come on forums. To them it's not a hobby as it is for many of us.

I have 3 B&M shops here. Only one sells some mechs, the other two are concerned about liability or just don't get enough call for them. I don't think there's many mech users in my area; when I'm in the B&M I frequent, most of the traffic I see is people coming in to get their tank recoiled and rewicked, or buy drop in coils and pods.

In terms of CBD, they all sell it. I'm even seeing CBD at the checkout counter at Ace Hardware. WTF?

Yeah CBD is all over everywhere.

I have I think 6 or 7 B&M's only one has any mechs at all. They have a few Purges and some Kennedys. Us mech users are the fringe of the vape community. The majority of B&M customers are not hobbyists. AS you stated many of them don't know how or care to know how to change the coil in their tank.

Here in Fargo ND there are quite a few shops. We have roughly 8 dedicated vape shops and another 7 or 8 which sell all sorts of tobacco as well as vape hardware. I can think of only one shoo that consistently carries mechs, and even then it is a select few at times. They are also one of the only ones still offering rebuildable atomizers. Most of the others are nothing but cheap starter kits and pod systems.

CBD sales has not taken off as much, but it is starting to pick up.

All the shops in Arkansas I've been to had either 0, 1 used (and overpriced) or a small display stand of tube mechs. They don't sell them in areas without a strong community of experienced vapers because they are not beginner-friendly (or unsafe for the uneducated). To afford stocking up on nice mechs, also, a shop has to have a strong enough business and returning customer base.

Unfortunately, shops here dont have enough of either

P.S. Yeah, I'm from Arkansas too so maybe my post was pointless lmao - shops have been like that since 2015 though, and a couple I know have closed since then

One was a Mower Medic\ Vaping and Gifts store, can you imagine? Buying coils from a kid who was covered in grease hahahaha, I liked it though, and they did have clone mechs and RDAs, kinda sad they gave that up

Vape shops do not care about Vaping and Advocacy they are in it to make a profit. Can't really blame them but true Vapers who Quit Smoking are few and far between in Vape Shop Ownership's. Just a true fact and although there are some it is a diminishing percentage.

I must admit that there are rumors that a vape shop around here that got past me may not sell many mechs over the counter, but will happily let you peruse his vendors catalogs and will throw your order in when he makes an order to get it for you. Not that it’s far from just ordering it yourself, you might get faster shipments or catch something you didn’t notice while looking online.
But, the source of this info also states the owner makes his own juice and will happily share the “recipe book”, so to speak, with his regulars that come in. Seems like that would kill your juice sales, but maybe this open-door type of service is what’s needed to give vaping at least some kind of leg up by being more user friendly and allowing access to things many other vape shops keep under lock and key.
I may go hunting for it tomorrow and see if it’s a myth or a legit place, because I wouldn’t mind paying a little more for things to be able to keep a good Vape Shop open.
If it turns out to be false, I’ll at least get the satisfaction of giving a few throat punches to my source..so it’s kind of a win-win scenario to me.

Edit: I just realized I have access to a pipe cutter/threader at work...I might be able to make something like a steampunk themed tube mod. Because I’m really getting annoyed by people seeing my vaping tattoo and saying “A couple of cannons for a skull and crossbones...that’s not a very original piece”

Maybe a revolution is needed...something like #VapeTubesMatter or #SaveTheMechs

Yep and gives the anti vapers more ammo to ban vaping.

And yes vapers in general are a minority and vapers on vape boards are a tiny part of vapers overall.

so many vapers are still totally ignorant of the Deeming regs and such.

Supposedly in North Little Rock in the same area as the DMV. Apparently it’s easy to miss and that must be true because that’s by where I work out. But I don’t even have a name for it, so, it could be a load of crap

I could go to the grocery store in town and buy a 30 pack of beer and a compound bow, if I was inclined
Is that not something everyone already does? Sounds like my typical Friday night.

Has anyone tried the nicotine infused toothpicks, by chance? Being at work and not having a break coming for awhile but needing some Nic really sucks and I was curious if they were novelties or the real deal. There’s a place called Razor Vapes that carries them around here.

Most of the shops in the Detroit area are tobacco/vape shops, with a couple dedicated to vaping. CBD (which
I know nothing about and have no interest in) is EVERYwhere.

I have seen exactly one old high end tube mech (model escapes me, been a while) and one shop which has a lot of Dotmod stuff had the Dotsquonk. Most do sell RDAs and RTAs, cotton, some drip tips and some basic supplies. However, I've spent some time and know some of the folks in a few of them pretty well and they sell 95% mainstream internal battery kits and pods, coils and juice.

Of course as has been stated, most vapers are not hobbyists at all so what we see online should be interpreted in that light, but I do see enough mech talk to be convinced that they aren't in any danger of extinction.

I should probably just break out a tube and start vaping...there are 3 guys and one girl that dip while they’re on the sales floor with the addition of water bottles half full of nasty brown spit jammed into their back pocket...seems like vaping would be an upgrade.

I believe people should use whatever they are comfortable with. For most, a regulated mod is the easiest and that's perfectly fine.

As for mechs becoming extinct, I'm with you, there's no danger of them going extinct. Even if they did, with the proper maintenance I could continue using the mechs I own for decades.

Yeah, the resiliency of Mechs amaze me, but even if I did somehow lose them or bust them all up, I have a few flashlights that run off of 18650’s that I could use as a makeshift mod. I think it was either BCF or Nic River or Liion Wholesale that sends them as gifts if you buy enough.

I'd rather machine my own mech tubes or boxes if it ever came to that, but as you can see in the attached pic, people are already all over your idea ;)

Been there. Manager dipped all the time, I couldnt use my cigalike (on the floor)

I blew mad clouds in the back cooler or freezer, though

You could get a high nic salt liquid and drop it under your tongue, that shit works and is literally the same thing people who dip do, minus the spitting and yucky and tobacco product. You could say it's Binaca.

Nic Salts, though, not regular nicotine *blech*

I know the shops around me stopped carrying them because the audience for it was more hassle than it was worth. The shop that got me into mechs told me that they used to get pissed when people would come in, handle everything, buy nothing and then they see them later with something they were handling in shop two weeks before. He would ask them about it and they said they found it $10 cheaper somewhere else. This shop is very fair and they dealt in volume rather than markup. Its easier not to carry them than to carry them to be treated like a tryout shop and sell 2-3 a week at each location, especially when you have to buy 20+ to even be competitive with online retailers.

Same things I experienced. I had a dude in the UK haggle with me for several weeks off and on for a brand new mod. Finally pulled the trigger, 2 hours after dropping it at the post office he "changed his mind" because he found a blem for cheaper elsewhere and filed a dispute with his credit card company. I lost almost $90 on that and spent several hours trying to stop the package.

I still have a dude that reaches out to ask twenty million questions and calls, and emails and messages and never spent a single dollar in the store. he has kept me on the phone asking questions for hours until I finally have to get rude. It always ends with let me think about it or can I have a $300 mod for a review or for $125 shipped.

How do people do that, look at vape stuff they want and buy it later on somewhere else? I bought something every time I went into the shop in Searcy, even if it was a just bottle of eliquid or a pair of batteries. I couldnt Not buy something, to my chagrin, because the owner was so nice and I mean... Vape stuff. Ya know? Every mod I handled, if I liked it, I bought it - tended to buy mods I had drooled on online, because they were RIGHT THERE and I could use them RIGHT THEN, and an extra few bucks is worth that joy and putting money into the local economy instead of sending it to China.

My only means of not buying something in a vape shop was not going in one, and if I don't have disposable income then I just don't go. Sigh

Why am I up so early

Funny you should say that. I just bought an OG Switch Mod ( a nice LE one too) that a store had sitting on a shelf for over two years, lol. The tube has a beautiful sleeve but the rest is brass and developed a lovely patina sitting there - score for me. I payed peanuts for the mod and RTA. The whole set up is very old school. Three post tiny deck, spring button (thank heavens no magnets, big copper button. I managed to fit .13 aliens in it after almost ripping my finger off. What's a little blood anyway when you build? Adds to the flavor, right?

In my recent search on trying to find a new Mech setup, I went to three different B&M vape shops in 3 cities around here and only one had a Mech mod..(not only one kind...they only had one).
Is this just an occurrence that’s happening in my neck of the woods or has anyone else found it difficult, if not impossible, to get Mechs any other place other than online?

You’re not drinking water are you? You realize that’s an ingredient in antifreeze!
It is getting tougher. We used have a lot of vape shops selling mechs. Now there is a big MTL push around here so it's almost easier to buy a dicodes mod or a high end DNA then a mech. But they bare still around. I've picked up two this month reasonably cheap - I love it. Shops will make deals on mechs if they are not selling. It's not like you need the latest and greatest. I bought ther Unicornn Vert 21700 and put a Blotto on it and I bought a Switch today.

Could mechs go the way of the Dodo....yes, they very well could....I vape genisis atomizers..I always have....the first atomizer I bought was a genny the AGA T2 .I have vaped all sorts of stuff..drippers, RTAs...but I always went back to my gennys, I personally haven't found a style of vaping that I enjoy more., and I hate cotton wicks..years ago the most coveted , and in demand ....and expensive atomizers around were gennys....but today..nobody vapes gennys there are probablly only around half a dozen companies that make them, and they are all high end because they are building for a very small group of vapers who still want gennys. You have to hunt down and stay tuned to the small world of genny vapers to hear news of a new genny being put out....the same fate could await mechs...when the demand for them becomes so small that only a tiny handful of modders produce them on small scale...and honestly that does seem to be where they are headed.....I'll meet you over on the dark side of the moon..I'll be the guy with the BMG-22, and the Pulse-G

Of course, it could be a conspiracy to force Mech junkies to go back to their roots of modding other devices into mods and enough people not being safe and accidentally building pipe bombs so that the government can have a bigger finger to point out Vaping=Bad and before you know it, we’re all discussing what flavor is best in our Blu’s.

I've been vaping for a year. I've already owned 3 mechs and my 4th is in the mail already.

I would say yes mech's are a dying thing and it makes me sad. My best vape is off a mech.

I've seen 2 mechs in the shops around here since I started vaping... a polished brass monstrosity with dragons and skulls on it for $600... and the modest Athena that I picked up a couple of weeks ago for $40.

It seems to be the same online... cheap stainless steel $10 tubes with scalding hotbutton issues or brass/copper tubes for $200+. There doesn't seem to be a lot of stuff in the $30-$60 range.

A lot of people are going to find themselves high and dry when everything gets banned because they don't have mechs and don't know how to mix their own juice.

I've been vaping for a year. I've already owned 3 mechs and my 4th is in the mail already.
