Aspire CF Mod + Arctic Tank = Bad Taste

So I am having an issue where the replacement coils for this tank are giving me HORRIBLE taste. Extremely burnt, hot, harsh metallic taste, lots of popping, it's disgusting. Now, the coil that is already in the Arctic Tank when you buy a new one tastes just fine. I've had two so far since I dropped my first one and broke it and both stock coils that were already in the tank were great. I drop a few drops on the cotton, fill the tank, pull a few no-power hits to make sure it's saturated and then start vaping and it tastes great. However, when I replace it with a fresh coil following the exact same steps it tastes disgusting like I described above. Not a little bad or somewhat funny but NASTY.

The replacement coils are Horizon BTDC 0.5ohm coils. If anyone can help I would really appreciate it because it's really ruining my vaping experience. I've talked with my local shop where I got the setup and they are telling me it's normal, but I cannot imagine it being normal.

That battery kind of works like a mech mod...it starts out firing at full charge and as the battery drains the voltage it fires at weakens and the power level goes down...What's probably happening is the coil that comes installed in the tank when you buy it is a .2 ohm coil and can handle the power being thrown at it by your battery no problem...and then you go buy a .5 ohm coil which works better with a much lower power level and lower wattages and it's burning up the coil giving you a shitty vape....

I would read the sides of all your coils and what resistance they are should be printed on them...if the one's that come with the tank are the .2 ohm coils that I think they are then to get the same vape that's the resistance you need to buy and not the .5 ohm one's you've been getting...hope this helps bud

wishing you better luck and happier vaping :)

The BTDC .5 ohm coils are rated for 30w-80w. At full charge the CF is only producing 33w-35w max with a .5 ohm coil so you really shouldn't be burning them. Even the BTC .5 ohm coil is rated at 20w-40w. I'd have to wonder about being told that this is "normal" and the quality of the replacement heads.

So the coil that comes IN the tank is a 0.5ohm Horizon Tech BTDC coil with a spare 0.2ohm coil in the package. I've tried both the 0.5 replacements and the 0.2's with the same nasty results. It's really weird because the replacements that I buy are the exact same coil that comes already installed in the tank. I've compared them both side by side and I cannot see any difference. The battery that I use is a 3.7v 2500mAh battery.

They are telling me that it's normal to have that nasty taste for an hour or so before it should go away. I cannot believe for a second believe that that is in any way true especially considering that when I use the coil that comes in the tank it doesn't happen at all. I do not see how anyone could vape like that for an hour. I'm going back in today to have them hit the damn thing and see if they still tell me it's "normal".

There's gotta be something different in the coil that comes IN the tank and the replacements they sell.

I've used every coil in my Arctic, the .2, .5, even the 1.3 or whatever. They all have been great, except the 1.3 leaves me wanting more power. Lol.

I'm with you, I would believe it's normal. My Arctic is my favorite tank I got. I do believe they make nickel coils for temp control, I guess it would b possible you got those. Also it's worth trying on a different mod. Can't hurt to try

Utter horseshit. I'd be taking my money elsewhere.

Utter Bullshit. Your coil head should only taste "strange" for the first 2-3 toots. What color is the insulator on the bottom of the coil head?

There is a possibility you got a bum lot of coil heads. I recommend getting the Aspire .3 or .5 Atlantis V2 heads (Organic Cotton), they will fit. Steer clear of that B&M where you bought the Horizon coils, it appears they are spouting bullshit to get rid of you and your questions/problems.

Apparently the flavor I was using, Mid Evil Anvil (Smells like watermelon) just tastes that nasty and some people like it. Three different people at the shop tasted it and said it just tastes that way, which tasted very metallic to me. After showing them how I prime my coils they said I was using too much juice which makes it burn super hot, pop a lot and can burn the throat. Also was told that perhaps sub-ohm tanks just aren't for me since I prefer a smoother flavor. So I guess some juices are just nasty.

I'm vaping some Highlander Red Rocks which tastes great in this tank, tastes a lot like fruity pebbles. The other flavor I was using was the Apollo which I also like a lot. First 10-20 pulls off it tastes a little funky but after that it mellows out nice n smooth so, not sure what to do if it's just the way the tank behaves or if some flavors are just gonna taste really nasty to me.

I should make it clear that both initial coils that tasted fine for me both had Apollo juice which I like a lot and the others were apparently over saturated initially so maybe I just need to find other flavors that I like as well in this tank because when i find a good juice I like the fact that it gives a TON of flavor and cloud.

A nasty taste for an hour. Wow...Some B&M shops are just horrible.
Btw would it matter if he got BTC heads instead BTDC?

BTC: Single Coil Wrap
BTDC: 2 Coils, Parallel Wrapped.

The BTDC are lower ohm. It's up to the vaper to choose the warmth and flavor they like with the selection of the coils.

A famous shrink in history once said "sometimes a cigar is just a cigar." For us vapors I guess you could modify it to something like "sometimes a bad vape is just a bad vape" and there's nothing wrong with your gear. Glad you got it figured out. But it would have been good to know that you used different liquids....I would next time you go to a vape shop go threw all the flavors in their "sample bar." almost all vape shops have one in some form or another...it's where they put a bunch of their favorite liquids they're trying to sell in a bunch of cheap clearos or cartos and they give you this little drip tip condom for lack of a better way to describe it so you don't swap germs trying them all with someone else so you can find what flavors you're going to like and which ones you won't before you get home and think it's something wrong with your gear next time...

Best of luck finding the next favorite flavor and happy vaping! :)
