This Day in Gaming 🎂

In retro news, I'm celebrating the 22nd birthday of the Gameboy Advance SP, the flip-top bestest version of the GBA SKUs. Debuting at a launch price of almost 200 dollarydoos, it would go on to ship a whopping 43.57M units before being discontinued in 2009. My fondest memory of my SP: using it in conjunction with a GameCube Link Cable to play asymmetrical multiplayer in Pac-Man Vs. all night long.

Nice Savings for Nintendo Switch

Kicking things off with the Switch, EA Sports FC 25 is a stunning 62% off at just A$34—a great opportunity to experience EA’s first football title since splitting from FIFA over a staggering billion-dollar licensing fee dispute. Meanwhile, RPG fans can dive into Bravely Default II for A$54, a title that builds upon its unique turn-based battle system, originally inspired by childhood games where players would "save up" turns before unleashing devastating attacks.

Exciting Bargains for Xbox

Over on Xbox Series X, Rockstar’s masterpiece Red Dead Redemption 2 is a mind-blowing A$20. That’s cheaper than a movie ticket for a game that took nearly eight years to develop. If sci-fi is more your thing, Star Wars Outlaws (A$56) offers the first true open-world Star Wars experience, letting you explore planets as a rogue scoundrel.

Pure Scores for PlayStation

PlayStation deals are equally impressive, with Star Wars Jedi: Survivor down to A$29. Lead actor Cameron Monaghan (Cal Kestis) did all of his motion capture in full Jedi robes, adding to the immersion. And if you prefer a crime thriller, Judgment (A$29) offers a gripping Yakuza spin-off. Its lead actor, Japanese superstar Takuya Kimura, was such a big deal that his agency allegedly blocked a PC release for years to control his digital likeness!

Finally, over on PC, Cat Quest is a whopping 100% off. This adorable RPG was created by Singaporean indie team The Gentlebros, who designed its fast-paced combat to be accessible yet satisfying for all ages. Meanwhile, Celeste (A$15) is an emotional, beautifully crafted platformer with a hidden developer room where you can find an in-game version of the creators themselves.
