Not to be confused with last month's Avengers Standoff: Welcome to Pleasant Hill #1, Assault on Pleasant Hill Alpha #1 is the true first chapter of Marvel's latest Avengers crossover. The structure of this crossover may be a bit strange, but these two issues manage to cover two different sides of the same coin. This issue gets the ball rolling in a fun way, and it serves as a terrific showcase for the creative team behind the upcoming Captain America: Steve Rogers.
Welcome to Pleasant Hill #1 was devoted mainly towards introducing the titular town and playing up the mystery behind its Mayberry facade. This issue examines Pleasant Hill from the other side, as Steve Rogers, Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes take center stage and begin unraveling S.H.I.E.L.D.'s latest conspiracy. Standoff may be an Avengers story, but it quickly becomes clear that the Captains America are the real crux of the tale.
