Dry nitrile and latex laboratory gloves can release stearate residues that mimic microplastics in infrared and Raman analyses, causing inflated counts. The authors report workflows and spectral libraries to distinguish glove contamination from true microplastics and recommend cleanroom nitrile gloves to reduce false positives, especially for particles under 10 µm.
