At the end of the day, comic book crossovers are all about making those old fanboy dreams come true. Having a compelling story certainly helps, but you don't want that story to get in the way of the many cool moments that crop up as the heroes of different worlds cross paths and intermingle. This is something writer James Tynion IV and artist Freddie Williams II have been very mindful of on Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Tynion and Williams have built a credible threat to test the combined mettle of Batman and the Turtles, but the emphasis remains on the sheer fun of seeing Batman learn the joys of Turtle Power.

Even ignoring its other merits, this issue earns a passing grade thanks to the scene where the Turtles convince Batman to eat pizza. They even manage to make the Caped Crusader smile, which I'm reasonably certain is a first for the New 52. Various little fun moments like that or Alfred butting heads with Michelangelo the thoroughly impolite house guest are what make this book such an enjoyable read. Yes, perhaps Batman is a little too chummy and friendly in this book to be truly in-character, but in this case, who cares?
