Batteries & Shelf Life

I am wondering... If you buy batteries, usually I get 18650s (LG Brownies) and you put them up for safe keeping, don't use them is there a shelf life for them?
As an example, I know that if you buy Duracell AA's they say they have a 10 year shelf life. SOmetimes they are on sale and I am wanting to get a bunch just to have in case..... :)
Thanks for any help/input. It will be greatly appreciated.

Each battery has internal resistance, as batteries are coming half charged on 3.7 v, you need to recharge and start using them. If you keep them, internal resistance will start to eat the cell power and gradually it will reach to critical points which is about 2.7 to 2.8 v point. This is a voltage we call dry voltage and your batteries shouldn't reach to this as they will start to die. It will be dangerous for both recharge and reuse.
Battery technology is changing day by day, so buy what you need and use it properly. No need for stocking in shelf mate
