I'm itching to get an RTA. I'm looking at it from a "friggin' pre-made coil costs" aspect. Not looking to drip, just want to build my own coils.

Could VU provide some suggestions for an RTA that has an easy build deck?

I watched a few build videos last night and ended up counting coils instead of sheep.
Appreciate it.

Serpent Mini

Battlestar RTA

Out of all of these the Aromamizers, Battlestar, Merlin Mini, and Serpent Mini are particularly easy to build.

Those are all RDAs there deuces, lol

I would recommend a few...
  • the OBS Engine because even if you mess up the build/wicking it wont leak, it will just dry hit and flood... once you figure out the build and wicking, its decent. not the best most flavorful, but decent (and again... wont leak... this is huge and a rarity with RTAs)
  • Perhaps a subohm tank with a rebuildable section so if you get frustrated in figuring out builds and wicking you at least have the option to pop in a pre-made coils. Example of one would be the Horizon Duos with the RBA Section.
  • Another option might be the RDTAs since the coils sit up top, the wick goes down into the liquid, and the airflow is usually hitting the coils up high on the device rather than under a reservoir of juice (back to that less likely to leak)
  • Now, since you said RTA i will actualy suggest one... the Griffin. there has to be a billion build videos for the griffin. it is pretty easy to build on, but if you dont do your part, it will leak a little through the airflow
  • I personally found the pharoah and digiflavor fuji son to be fairly easy to build on
  • I also really enjoy the wotofo conqueror although i would say this or any postless build deck is a little more finicky to learn on than other styles but well within reach of anybody who tries

I went with the Pharoah Rta, deck is HUGE clamps make it easy to place the cloil, I could park a toyota in the juice ports...and the flavor is great when i get the build right

Damn Timmerz, thanks for that. My bad. I fixed it. Boy I need some sleep. I'm running on fumes. Good looking out.

I second the OBS Engine. Very easy to build for and use. Even a monkey can do it. Love mine, even ordered a second one.

Well, if you were to do a review on it, you'd probably go loopy over it.

It's got a couple of annoying traits like the drip tip is just ok a little too short, threading on top cap is a little shallow and AFC it too tight other than that it's the badgers nadgers

Edit oh one more thing phillips grub screws I bloody hate phillips grub screws!

LoL seriously though these are minor things overall it's almost the perfect package

I agree with all of those. I changed the drip tip, ordered a shitload of grub screws in varying sizes and I've learned that I only need to screw on the top cap HALF of what I was doing. It comes off easily and just doesn't leak. The AFC is a pita so I set it first, then put the tank together and it's fine. If only the other problems in my life could be fixed so easily.

I'd go with the Pharaoh and I'd order an additional Velocity style deck with it. The default Pharoah deck is the easiest single coil deck to build on, and Velocity style decks are the easiest dual coil decks to build on. Also, rewicking the Pharaoh single coil deck is pretty much as fast and easy as installing a premade coil head.

Also, even though the Pharoah without the additional deck will get you building, it's important to become skilled at building on velocity decks, since they are so common and you'll almost assuredly eventually pick up RTAs that use them.

If the OP is not an experienced builder, I would recomend against getting the Pharaoh. @SirRichardRear did a video review on it and couldn't wick it so it wouldn't leak. And he's been building and wicking for years.

Not saying it can't be wicked efficiently, but if someone like Anthony has such a hard time with it, then I don't even want to mess with right now.

But that's just MY opinion and you know what they say about opinions. :)

It's incredibly easy to wick on it's just that the way Rip Trippers suggests is hard. All you have to do is put the wick through the coil, cut it so the ends barely reach the bottom of the well, and tuck them down. The double wicking thing is what's difficult.

I definitely would have went with something else for your first rta bro. Wicking can be brutal but with help and pointers from VU, you will get it figured out; )
