6 mg is a great starting point, but don't be afraid to change that.

On a mouth to lung mini-tank, I got off the smokes. It took 22 mg liquid to do it, however! Over three years I've drifted down to 1 mg and I'm pretty happy here.

22mg in a GS Air, Nautilus, iSub with the 2 Ohm coils etc. would be a real killer. I guess you were using a 1st gen tank with that? Either that or you have a really really hairy chest and previously ripped the filters off your Marlboro Reds ha ha. :D

I was in the same nic range but it was too much with the more advanced setups. Couldn't get a decent inhale/exhale with high nic and low ohms. I'm thinking that having a more efficient setup will allow me to decrease the nic to get what I'm looking for. My big fear is going down too far in the nic and still wanting/needing to smoke

First gen, this was three years ago and it was technically a clearo-tank. I still use those--the Kanger T3, now the T3S--but 22 mg these days would have my butt on the floor clutching my stomach and trying not to vomit.

Really, I notice very little difference between the Kanger T3S and a good mouth to lung tank with the air set as tight as I like it (extremely tight). 1 mg is correct for me in both.

Devices also weren't nearly as advanced as they are nowadays, the Vamo V2 was in style and about the best thing going. And not cheap.

When I started, I was at 12 mg on a cartomizer, and that just wasn't cutting it worth diddly on the cigalikes. I stepped to an eGo-like device with a 3.7 V set point, and kept stepping up the nic until I was satisfied.

Today the experience should be very different, but I wouldn't be surprised if heavy smokers, or smokers of full-flavor cigarettes, might require 12 mg/ml liquid to quit smoking before dropping back.

However, my cousin is still at 12 mg/ml on a TC tank, so there are certainly some people who enjoy the hit. It'd knock me out!

We're all so different! I use low nic and high ohm (I'm currently using a Kanthal coil at 2.3 ohms!) I'm an all-day puffer who likes his vapor weak, cool, and only partly cloudy, but I can still fill my office (about 12x12) with a minor fog.

If you do drop the nic, make absolutely sure to have higher nic on hand so you can revert if you get a severe craving. I did that for ages until I was certain I was OK with drifting it downward.

Later on, you can buy a little PG or VG and dilute the high nic down to your current vaping level so it won't go to waste.

For me personally when I first went to subohm with my Atlantis I dropped from my 18-24mg that I was using with my little dinky thing and went to 12-18mg. I did use 24mg a couple times but I'd get a little light headed or even nauseous sometimes after a half dozen or so big puffs. I felt 18mg was good if I wanted a bit of a headhigh, and 12mg if I wanted to just puff it at will.

Now I'm down to 6mg though and seem to be happy sitting there, but my setups also make my old Atlantis look like a joke.

I might do that, I used to vape virus from nicoticket. They're having a BOGO sale right now. My only fear is that if I order too high nic then try to dilute it the flavor will be screwed. If you've ever tried their stuff you know it's not a simple flavor so don't want to eff it up. I may order some cheaper stuff from MBV until I figure out what nic level I need, just don't want to miss the sale at Nicoticket

That'll work perfectly!

I find most commercial liquids over-flavored (I DIY a 7.5% flavoring liquid for myself), so dilution would be a good thing. :)

As your taste buds and sense of smell recover, you'll find your tastes changing. Many of us found we couldn't stand a liquid we used to love after about three months. I bounced from heavy menthol (really the only thing I could taste at first) through berry and bakery flavors, and then back to a much subtler and gentle menthol-cinnamon.

Lol! I've been vaping the same flavor from the same supplier for 4+ years. Buy it by the liter.

My vote goes to Hurricane (FT clone ) to rebuild. I found it a great MTL tank but not for the tank cracking juices. The other one is Nautilus/Nautilus mini with the Triton mini clapton coils. Personally, I also like the GS and the goblin mini.
Cheers,

Funny you mention that, I saw a review of it yesterday and was thinking it would be a viable option. Are the fasttech clones any good, or better off with hcigar or tobeco? Couldn't find any in stock other than at fasttech but don't know a ton of places to check either

Order your liquid in zero nic, you can dilute without reducing flavor.

Could I do this on a tank by tank basis? Meaning if I order one at 18 and one at 0, i could fill the tank 2/3 with 0 and 1/3 with 18 and end up around 6? I dabbled in DIY juice but never got it right so a little gun shy about mixing.

Correct.
That's what I do. I fill 30ml bottles 50/50 with 18mg/0mg (0mg is straight VG, my supplier only does 70/30 P/V mix) from 240ml bottles. I do a 10ml bottle 1/4-3/4 for my sub-ohm ventures. Somtimes mix in the tank, if I forget/get lazy to cut a batch.

So I went ahead and ordered some stuff, got 2 bottles of juice 1 at 18mg, 1 at 0. Also ordered a charger since mine met an unfortunate end. Next will be looking at a TC device so may get rid of the Sig 150. Want to try temp control, see what that's all about.

/Getting an order done makes one feel a lot better.
I have a Cuboid inbound for that, since it covers Ti/Ni/SS/TCR. If that works out, and want smaller, I'll check into the Evic VTC mini.

Yes, but it's better to premix and let it mingle for a couple days, and at least shaking is good, but do you really want to vigorously shake your tank? So I'd premix if possible though in a pinch, yes you can just use the tank.

I was looking at the Evic too, may look at trading for one or selling my sig and just buying it.

I'll definitely try to do it before hand but at least in a pinch can do it in the tank

Hey doc! I just recently quit smoking too (almost 2mos) and transitioned to vaping very successfully!

My first setup was an eVic VTC Mini paired with a Triton v2 tank. Both are really great, I find that I could MTL with the 1.8ohm coil included in the package.

I then transitioned into the .5ohm Clapton coil (also included) and never looked back. You can also use coils from other companies such as Vaporesso's Ceramic Coils which is a really great advantage of the Triton tank. There are a lot of coils in the market that use its design.

Right now, I still have the eVic VTC which I still really love and a Cuboid. I use the eVic VTC when I hit the bars/clubs but when I don't feel like carrying around an extra battery, I use the Cuboid.

Both mods are exceptionally good and I currently use the Triton v2 on both mods. I have a Crown tank in the mail which I plan to pair with the Cuboid so my Triton can stay with the VTC Mini.

I highly recommend the tanks and mods mentioned above, they really are great value for the money.

I'll check out the Triton, haven't heard much about it. The crown from what I've read may be too airy for me right now.

There are a couple of hurricanes on the FT site, I bought the $20ish one. I like it a lot . If it's wasn't for the new crop of tanks popping up now, i'd buy another. I received a clone-buki from them yesterday and I like that one also. The difference is that the kibuki uses the nautilus bvc coils and the hurricane you can build to your liking in any resistance and wire type you want. I hear good things about the Pico rta as well, especially the one from 3fvape (20ish). The newer Pico 's is wicking like the stm and the Pico v1 wicks like the tayfuns.
Hope that helps. Oh, one more thing, the hurricane is plastic tank (don't be tempted by the glass one, it's a caca-up) so no tank cracking juices for it. The kibuki is glass tank.
Cheers,
Brewbear

The plastic won't affect me since luckily none of my stuff cracks tanks.

How's the airflow on the kabuki? Seems like most stuff now is more airy than I want at this point

Like @HaileStorm said, the triton is a very good mtl tank (I have 3) and the evic mini is a great little mod. Vapenw has its for 39 bucks. Another small mod would be wismec Presa 75w for 29 bucks. Both are tc mods, support all wires and firmware updateable .

I have the crown, it's is on the airy side, you'd be better off with a goblin mini rta. I would wait on the gob.mini, v2 with a top fill is coming out.

I have my sigelei up for sale/trade now so we'll see what happens.

Both the hurricane and the kibuki have adjustable air flow. The hurricane has an air flow ring, the kibuki has a side he screw-set it's and forget it's type air flow.

I've been using the Goblin nano style rta from fasttech for the last 2 days and I like it ! https://www.fasttech.com/p/4016300 check it out! For the price, it is one of my best buys from FT.
I also have the rba for nautilus. They are kind of hit and miss. The build deck is minuscule, they have some QC issues (one of them is bent) but the one I am using in the nautilus is great IMHO.

Very interesting that the Nautilus RBA is working for you. I have a load of 30ga wire sitting unused that I think would be perfect.

It is working well. I actually want to order 3 more from GB hopefully at least one will be OK and the rest for spare parts.
