What do movies as disparate as Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension, Jem and the Holograms, The Last Witch Hunter, Steve Jobs, and Rock the Kasbah all have in common? They all flopped at the domestic box office this weekend, allowing The Martian to return to first place in its fourth week in release.
Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension, the final entry in the series, also had the lowest opening in the franchise's history with an estimated $8.2 million for a sixth place finish.
It should be noted, however, that Ghost Dimension opened on about 1,000 less screens than its predecessors because certain theater chains refused to carry it due to Paramount's decision to also release it on VOD after it drops below 300 screens.
