burn taste help, done my research but nothing has worked

I have a sigelie zmax 3 and a kayfun lite v2 clone. 60%PG/40%VG, 12 mg nic. this is my first advanced kit so I'm pretty sure I'm overlooking a tiny detail somewhere.

purchased about 3-4 months ago. upgraded from the xfire xwing and kanger protank mini3. definitely one hell of an upgrade. everything was working great but this past few weeks i've been having issues.

28 gauge kanthol wire, wrapped around the mini Phillips head that came with the tank, about 12-13 times, micro coil, generally turns out between 1.8-2.2 ohms. saw on youtube to use tweezers after i fire it up so it burns from the middle. it actually worked once, but then it went back to being nasty again. I've wrapped probably 15-20 coils since then. idk what's wrong.

been vaping it at 15 watts pretty much the whole time because that was the reason I upgraded from crappy ecig. I've been experimenting at lower watts because I thought it would help but it doesn't.

experimented with the amount of cotton I use (organic, not boiled) and that hasn't made a difference either. I had been twisting the cotton to get it through that hole, stopped doing that because I was told it makes it harder for the liquid to be pulled up. but still doesn't make any difference. experimented with different lengths of wick but nothing works. just barely touching top base, using the juice as adhesive and pushing wick to the walls, tried a chimmeny coil but that didn't work. a guy on youtube said to not let the wick touch the cylinder that you screw on after, so when I screw that on I've been using a tiny flat head to separate the wick from the metal and to make sure the juice pathway is clear but that doesn't do anything.

I swapped out the hardware for the airflow and the liquid chamber because I was told that it old liquid builds up in the rivits. that one time I told you it worked, was when I first swapped it out. I honestly thought that fixed the problem but nope..

I also have the kayfun lite v2 xl that I purchased a month ago, and I have the same problem with that. so I don't believe that there was a meltdown inside the base thing because it's new and both tanks are having the same problem. but I read online that it's a possibility so if anybody has any advise they could give me to narrow down the problem, that would be awesome.

Thanks for your time, Namaste :)

I'm not very experienced with kayfuns as I prefer dual coil, but 15 watts at 1.8 or higher is over 5 volts. I would try for 8 wraps and see if that helps. As for twisting cotton, as long as the cotton in the coil is not twisted and you untwist the ends, it should be fine. It should be able to easily slide through the coil but make sure there is enough in there. Also, I would try for Japanese cotton. I found it wicks better. For tanks, I try to have the cotton touching the channels but not going in.

Imo, less wraps and Japanese cotton are your best bet. I like www.amazon.com/Cotton-Labo-ORGANIC-Puff-200pc/dp/B000TCD51A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1420536918&sr=8-1&keywords=japanese+cotton

Hey, i have a lemo and i had one burnt hit so far and it was because i didn't put enough cotton, check your cotton make sure u have just enough so its always saturated, too much or too little migh cause a problem.

Ditto on that, also what juice are you using? I've found some juices get just plain nasty at higher watts especially if they are high nicotine level.

With the Russian I've had the most luck doing an 8-10 wrap 2.7mm inside diameter coil. I then pull through two (one folded in half) 2mm EKOWOOL wick. 15 Watts though on a single micro coil in a tank (LEMO excluded) I think is likely just way too much. It won't be able to wick fast enough. The only way I can go high wattage on a microcoil is a dripper. My best build (constancy wise) has been dual 10-wrap 28ga which gives me 1.1 ohm. However that's not possible in a Russian/Kayfun as the build deck and chimney are just too darn small.

For what it's worth I've all but given up on cotton in a tank as it just degrades too fast. I have a DNA 40 device on order with temp control which I think may help that issue but I don't know yet.

Cotton doesn't degrade in a DNA40. There's no burnt taste either. But I digress...

One thing that seems to help is a loose wick inside the coil, to "let it breathe" and help juice wick faster inside. Also, the shorter the distance the wick has to reach down into the well to pick up the juice, the better. Finally, what I personally do is jam wicking material between the deck and the bottom of the coil, to keep that part wet from the outside.

As far as the coil is concerned, touching wraps makes the coil run hotter. I find slightly spaced wraps give much better results: there's more juice in contact with the wire, and the coil runs cooler, thereby preventing juice overheating. Yes, I know everybody and their dog swears by touching wraps, but I personally find slightly less compacted coils to be better. My DNA40 seems to agree, as the chip hits TP less quickly for the same amount of power, and the same amount of vapor generated.

That's exactly what I am hoping - as in theory I can keep the coil below the burning temp of the cotton fibers.

Yep. The DNA40 will keep the cotton from getting cooked. But if your wick job sucks, you'll get a pitiful amount of vapor - and the chip will hit TP even with the atomizer completely flooded. Mind you, better crappy performances than dry hits :)

I favorite juice is banana cream, but i think
Its the high vg tha causes the wicking and flava issues, i cld b wrong!

Sounds like the coil is too long and too small in diameter. Open it up and shorten it up. You can trade some length for width and keep the amount of wire about the same.
