Burned lung hit after wick change!

OK so I'm very new at this. I have a kanger tech sub mini and got a couple of new occur coils. I started up a new coil with some dark juice. Flavor never really came through well, then I started getting really dry hits. (With in a couple of days with the newer coil) so I thought since my juice is so dark, it might be gunky in there. I decided to try and change the wick. I did and it seemed like the coil was intacked after, not touching it's loops, from what I can tell. I started to vape and omg burned my lungs bad....did I ruin the coil? Are the loops touching and I can see? Also why did the occ coil dry hit so quickly?

I don't use that tank so I can't say this is true specifically for your device but in my experience, as soon as you take a dry hit with a cotton wick, it's toast and the coil needs to be re-wicked. If I tried to continue to use it, even after making sure that the wick was thoroughly saturated, I'd still get that burnt taste.

From what I understand however, those OCC coils are not too difficult to rebuild, coils included, so just replacing the wicking on them might be cake. I wish I could help more but you might be able to find some rebuild videos on YouTube that would. :)

After you rewick you must soak the new wick with a few drops on the sides then a few drops on the top. Let it sit for couple min the suck hard on it a few times without pushing the button to get the flow going. You should be good to go.

It sounds like either you're running a high vg juice or one that just dirties the wick and gunks up the coil quick. I noticed when I was vaping mostly custard flavors that my wicks weren't lasting long at all. NGAHaze is right about burning the cotton, once you get a solid dry hit you've burned the cotton and that taste is not going to go away until you replace the wick.

Any time you install a new coil you could drip some juice directly onto the wick to get it saturated before closing everything up. I usually let mine sit for a few minutes after changing a coil or wick just to make sure everything is good. It wouldn't be a bad idea to do a few primer pulls before starting either, that's where you plug the airflow hole with your finger and do a couple mouth to lung type drags on the tank. This will pull juice into the wick and help prevent a dry start.
