Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice enjoyed a blockbuster opening this weekend both at home and abroad, taking in an estimated $424.1 million worldwide.
The Zack Snyder-directed DC superhero showdown earned $170.1 million from North America and an additional $254 million from 66 international markets. BvS made $57.3 million alone in China, the second biggest film market in the world.
Domestically, BvS broke The Hunger Games' March opening weekend record of $152.5 million. And should the estimates hold, BvS will also be Warner Bros.' biggest domestic debut of all time, surpassing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 ($169.2 million).
BvS also marks the biggest opening ever for a DC Comics movie, passing The Dark Knight Rises' domestic bow of $160.9 million. It made roughly $54 million than its predecessor Man of Steel did when it opened in 2013. However, it's the fourth-biggest superhero movie opening of all time in North America behind three Marvel movies: The Avengers ($207.4 million), Avengers: Age of Ultron ($191.3 million) and Iron Man 3 ($174.1 million).
