Activision Publishing has reportedly laid off 5 percent of its workforce, affecting a number of its internal studios, including Infinity Ward and Beenox.
According to a report from Kotaku, approximately 20 staff members from Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare developer Infinity Ward were laid off.
During Activision's quarterly earnings call earlier this month, the publisher acknowledged that Infinite Warfare "wasn't the success we planned," saying the "space setting didn't resonate with players." Despite being the best-selling game of last year in the U.S., Infinite Warfare fell short of the sales success achieved by prior entries in the series. This year's entry in the franchise, developed by Sledgehammer Games, will take Call of Duty "back to its roots."
