I have been charging my (real) Sony VTC5's at about 1/2 drained in the evenings on my Nitecore D2 charger, still seems to take more than 3 hours at what I believe is 500mah speed...

Yup, good info. I agree with everything except the advice about long term storage being best at 15 deg C. I have used my home freezer for a few packs and have had great results over the years. You must not get them too cold, but home freezers don't get that cold anyway.
