With Void Rivals, Robert Kirkman and Lorenzo de Felici jump-started an entire shared universe known as the Energon Universe. Now de Felici is flying solo for his latest project, an intriguing new horror comic called Red Roots. And no less an authority on horror than Hellboy creator Mike Mignola is drawing a cover for the series.

Red Roots is written and drawn by de Felici, with covers by de Felici, Mignola, Luana Vecchio, Riley Rossmo, and Jason Howard. Image Comics' official logline for the series teases, "In Red Roots, the lives of a professional killer and a high school teacher are bound by a terrifying, mysterious force."
"Red Roots is the shining example of what comics can be at their best," Kirkman said in a statement. "A wholly original concept with characters you are instantly invested in as they traverse a story with twists and turns you could never predict. This is the comic series you’ve been waiting your whole life for."
Red Roots #1 will be released on April 22, 2026. You can preorder a copy at your local comic shop.
