Clones vs authentic: is there any large difference?

Just bought a clone Vision Spinner II 1600 mah for 15 bucks on eBay. I chose the spinner II for the extra 0.6 volts compared to my cheap egos.

I was wondering though, are clones (of any device) just cheaper because they are not by the original brand, or are they actually of lesser quality?

A while ago I got two Ego T clones for backups to my 4.2 volt ijoy, and I absolutely hate them. Of course, I can't tell if they're bad because of being clones or if any Ego T is bad because I've never used an authentic one to compare to.

So the question is: are clones as good as authentic devices? Does it depend on who is making the clones? And are there typically differences in quality or specs of clones in general compared to authentics?

This discussion is open for any battery, or even atomizer if you think it pertains.

Huge grey area, them clones. Temper the following thoughts with the acknowledgment I'm a huge clone user, and 90%+ of my devices are clones...

The only thing buying a cloned device establishes is that you're buying a fake - that is, whoever made it has such low ethics that they're willing to copy a device, down to logos and trademarks (I really wish they wouldn't do that). This speaks to their character, but not to the skill of their manufacturers.

Some clones are cheap, half-assed, and even downright dangerous - I wouldn't, for example, trust a cloned battery, where the specs might not be up to snuff and I could end up lit on fire because someone cheaped out. Others are pretty much what you'd expect when you hear the phrase "clone" - a direct, 1:1 copy. Still others actually improve upon a design, adding features or correcting flaws in an original device.

Unless you do a ton of research before you buy and are familiar which cloner you're dealing with, it's pretty much a crap shoot. That said, I'm much more willing to buy simple mechanical devices like RDAs and mech mods in clone form, where for batteries and regulated mods I'm more likely to insist on an authentic device - I just buy fewer of these items because I can't afford the same selection, but choose to stay safe in this regard.

People fail to realize just how much power is trapped inside of the batteries we use...to me it's not worth the crap shoot of not knowing what you're going to get by buying cheap batteries...I'd rather spend a couple extra bucks for peace of mind than not knowing what my battery is going to do or to question it's quality.

For me, what really matters is the battery and the switch clone or not.
Nowadays, I am hearing that even batteries are being cloned lol

A clone Atty or mech mod, sure. Anything with electronics, or chemicals that can potentially blow up in my face, not so much.

I have a hana modz clone 30 watts clone that has worked perfect for 9 months now. Just lucky to have gotten a good one. Heard a lot about bad clones of that box. Thinking about updating it with an evolve 40 watt TC chip.

Well, if you guys seen my recent thread about my new spinner ii clone burning my hand, I've gotten my answer. I guess no more battery clones for me, just atomizers.

The batteries we use, even in eGo and "twist" style batteries is much greater than most people realize...it takes a lot of energy to ramp up our atomizer coils...they are for all intensive purposes small heating units...think about how much higher you power bill is in the winter from running your heater constantly...for safety's sake it's the one area of vaping other than the chargers we use to charge those batteries that is not worth skimping on to save a couple bucks above all others.

I am sorry it burned up in your hand, but I am grateful that nothing worse happened that could.
