Researchers at Texas A&M report that compounds in coffee may activate NR4A1, a receptor involved in stress response, inflammation, metabolism and tissue repair. The mechanistic study suggests coffee’s health effects may come from polyphenols and related compounds more than caffeine, and helps explain why regular and decaf coffee have shown similar associations in population studies.
