Good evening!

I am getting the Hammer clone from Tobeco which ill be using with the Goblin Mini RTA and
Trustfire NON PROTECTED 18350 1200mAh 3.7V Li-ion...

I would like to get some suggestions on what kind of coil build i should be making for this rig? Been researching battery safety and Ohms-law in general, but i could not find much info on these specific batteries.

Getting them from Amazon.co.uk and the reviews there look promising..

Im not looking for any cloudchaser or maximum flavour rig, just a nice evening vape with a decent amount of vapor and flavour. But the coil will be made out of
Kanthal A1 26G.

What would be the lowest Ohm that is still well in the safe zone, single or dual coil, how many wraps at what diameter?

Thank you in advance for the replies!

Not to burst your bubble but the general consensus on any battery with 'Fire' in the name is to keep away, especially when using with a mech. :)

Welcome to VU :) Are you considering this setup because it looks cool or are you serious about getting into building your own coils?

I have two,I use a SONY VTC 4 with a Smok kick , has a 12 watt limit and a low battery cut-off AND over amp draw protection....The Hammer by ToBeCo has a very small spring in the pos.pin of the 510 connection that will NOT take any thing lower than 1.0 ohms, the spring heats up and loses its "spring"....I use the short tube section between the 510 and the body to fit the kick, and use the longer tube to hold the 18650 SONY VTC 4 battery....

NGAHaze - So i have heard! But i was thinking if i would build a high Ohm coil it wouldnt be much of a problem. I will be replacing the batteries as soon as i find some good 18350 sized ones.

misthub_rick - I was looking through the different mods and i was looking for something that was shorter then 10cm. I found the VaporShark DNA 30 box and was thinking of getting it at first, but then i found this Hammer and i just fell in love with the looks and compact size of it. Along with the option for 3 different battery sizes and from the looks of it, its less likely for a mech to break then one of them box mods!

And im not really too serious yet, i just want a decent vape out of it. Tho i can see myself getting into the hobby aspect and building different coils and trying different rigs!

z man - I watched a video on youtube where someone fixes the voltage drop issues with the Hammer, he reinforces the spring with 2x locksprings so i was thinking ill do the same. As far as the battery goes ill be only using 18350s on it, for now! :)

AxE v4, I also have seen the Y/T vids on the spring by adding the tumbler springs,I have fixed Mine with a short section of silicone covered fine stranded 12 ga. wire that I picked up at the local R/C hobby shop, the flexi kind they use in the electric cars....I have used a Freakshow mini with a .23 ohm dual 26 ga kanthal a1 coils, but not with a 18350....I used the same SONY as in the earlier post, but with out the Kick, because the Kick won't run anything that low....
I have used it with a 18350 efest 700 mAh and a 1.2 coil in a subtank mini by Kanger...Great for LTM type vaping....Z

z man - Thanks for the reply! Great information there but first of all, what do you mean by LTM vaping? And any idea on how many wraps of 26G Kanthal A1 i should do around what diameter for a 1.2-1.4 Ohm coil?

Im heading down to our local VapeShop today to ask if they happen to have one of those Ohm/Voltage meters, i have the feeling im really gonna need one of them cause i dont want to solely rely on SteamEngine and other calculators like that.

Did the silicone covered wire work well and how did you attach it? Just curious since i might have some pieces of wire like that lying around.

Thanks again!

with 26 ga.. a metric fuck ton, so many wraps you may not have room.
This is my battery chant.
Samsung, sony, LG, mnke... if not one of those do NOT put it in a shitty mech like the hammer.

BigNasty - I figured i would, i was just pissin around with the wire and trying a wrap, managed to roll 10 wraps around what i think is a 1.5mm rod. This still has "plenty" of room in the Goblin Mini, so ill be wrapping a bigger one abit later!

I have no way of checking the Ohms of this since the local VapeShop had no readers, nor did they have high VG juices when i asked, so ill be making an order from somewhere.

Thanks for the battery recommendations, ill try to find a few of those batteries but ill definately risk it with the Trustfire ones for now. Shitty mod? Maybe so but its up to personal preference. It hasnt arrived yet so i got my hopes up :)

AxE v4,I MTL,Mouth To Lung,I'm sorry in My rush to answer ,a lil' Dyslexia sets in....The specs on the coils,26 ga. 5 wraps per coil,3/64" I.D.1/8" legs for .23 ohm ....The wire fix,I used a short piece about the same length as the pin,and the silicone cover is about 3/16" long....I had a little trial and error fitting it but it should be a lil' springy and it is just in there with nothing attaching it,just the fact that it is trapped inside the two pin halfs so it is working like the spring did,but with no voltage drop...(I checked it with My multi-meter after the swap).....Hope that helps!.....Z

z man - No worries Z! Was thinking it might have meant that, and i know the feeling with Dyshlexzia! I might try the wire reinforcement, but i also have acoupl of those now springs i could use so might even try them both and see which works for me.

The coil i wrapped earlier today.. 26G Kanthal 1 with 10 wraps and 1.5mm.. well we managed to get the Ohms of it and by some freaking miracle it ended up at 1.02 Ohms.. so it should be safe to use but im just gonna wrap another one with a 2mm screwdriver and put in another 2 wraps. Will see how that turns out!

Im curious on how the multiwire coils work since more wire = more resistance? But most of these zipper, alien etc coils have alot of wire but the resistances are subOhm if im not mistaken? Is that because the leads have multiple wires?

Thanks again!

Check on Steam Engine site,Dual coils ,have a set of .44 ohm coils,Two resisters in parallel divides the res. in half =.23 ohm

z man - Gotten alot of good info off this thread and im learning alot :) Will be informing in a week or so how the setup works, if its good, even better or fantastic for the purpose! Or if my teeth have cracked from some wierd battery explosion..

Gonna aim for a 1.2-1.4 Ohm single coil!

Fucking hell guys.. this thing is amazing! I mean.. pretty much all the reviews i watched about the Hammer mod had a few complaints about the firing pin spring being shit, the finish being abit off, the threads being bad and the battery vent holes not aligning.

My piece arrived in the mail today, and its finish is flawless, the threads are really smooth and nice, the firing pin spring was good as new and it had a nice strong springiness to it.. the vent holes also aligned! Started thinking they sent me a real Kato one by mistake ;D Only complaints i have are that if you tighten the locking ring just abit too much, youll probably have to unscrew the batterycap. And the actual battery harness was abit dirty but thats no biggy.

Made a 1.17 Ohm coil for the Goblin Mini and it was firing abit slow 4-5 seconds when dry, but when i wicked it and filled the tank it only takes max 2 seconds to heat up and produce the vapour! Also im using quite a thin blend of juice. NUCIG ice menthol a mix of 0% and 2.6% nicotine.

And that rig looks insanely good! XD

z man - Trustfire NON PROTECTED 18350 1200mAh 3.7V Li-ion, as stated in the thread. Very good reviews on Amazon but im still looking for new batteries that i can truly rely on!

I might empty the tank tomorrow and try out the 1.4 Ohm coil that i made. Tho its warmup time was long when i tried it on earlier!

z man - Thanks dude, gonna look into it if i can find any of those brands in Finland! The thing is i can manage with a 18350, since im probably gonna use this only for vaping at home. But im going to buy acoupl of different sized batteries just incase.
