Coil resistance on a regulated mod.

So, my question here is this. How important really is coil resistance in a regulated mod? Can you just fire anything the mod will handle and be happy? Or is there a danger to it. Also, I was messing with and ohms law calculator, and I notice that the lower you set the resistance, the lower the output voltage is. Is it then safer to use a lower lower resistance build with a regulated mod? I used 100w is a maximum figure, (Because the mod I have in mind goes up to 100w) and set the resistance to 0.5. The voltage topped at 7.07v. Then I lowered the resistance to 0.25, and the voltage dropped to 5v. Do regulated mods work this way and is coil resistance really important? I'm coming from an unregulated box mod where coil resistance is CRUCIAL, so this is a learning curve for me. Thanks!
