Compatibility Question

Hello all and very nice to meet you may I add (Just joined forums).

I've pretty recently come to vaping (in the past 2 months from a friend giving me his old tank), and I'm enjoying it much more than what I had previously been smoking (largely cigars/hookahs etc, never cigs-- do not like the smell or taste). That being said, while tinkering with my Aspire Atlantis(v1) tank I... may.. have ruined it. It looks fine to me after I put it all back together, but its no longer producing much of anything. When I do get any vapor it tastes burnt.

I already went ahead and replaced it with a new Sub-ohm tank: the Smowell Hattrick. Now while reading yet another review of this tank after purchasing it, I was somewhat alarmed to note that the reviewer stated that it vaped best at 80-90w. The Mod I'm using is not nearly that high to my knowledge DOVPO DT-50, which can be seen here: http://www.dovpoecig.com/index.php/...oniccigarettewholesale-dovpoecig-dt50-52.html .

Is this an issue that would require me to buy a new mod to go with my new tank? :(

Also if I need to go to a new mod, I was thinking about going with a mechanical mod. Is there a clear benefit to this (other than of course being able to manually set the output) when using a sub-ohm tank? or is this more of something that is useful only for drip tanks?

You should be ok, according to what I've read about the tank.
  • 0.2 ohm Optimized for 30 to 120W
  • 0.5 ohm Optimized for 30 to 80W

Hi and welcome, @and32190! I've got a couple thoughts...

First, you could have damaged the coil (or burnt the wicking) on your Atlantis - have you tried just replacing the coil?

Second, as @Neunerball has already pointed out you should be fine vaping that Smowell with your 50-watt device. You may find it lacking as well, but the only way to find out is to try.

Third, a "mechanical" mod offers no adjustment whatsoever - it's just a housing for a battery with two settings: on and off. There are no safety cutoffs or other protections - they're generally considered better left in the hands of experienced vapers, and even at that many of us have switched over to high-powered regulated devices, particularly for use with tanks.

Welcome to VU!
BTW, I agree with the advice given above! Try changing the coil on the Atlantis.
