After vaping for a while I got my first RTA set up. The TFV8 Cloud Beast. The problem is, the taste is unlike anything I have experienced before. I imagine the cotton it came with is to blame. It is supposedly "organic", but that doesn't necessarily mean Japanese, right? Am I correct that the cotton is the problem? If so, what do you recommend? I chain vape at 30ml per day if that matters. :)

Thanks!

There are tons of variables involved in something like that. So it's hard to read that and say for sure it's the cotton at fault but in general, cotton plays a relatively small role in flavor compared to the other factors. It is worth pointing out though, since you said this is your first rta, if you touch on the cotton a lot it's going to have a funky taste from the finger oils etc. I never leave a section of cotton I've touched in the final wick piece if I can help it

It's hard to tell what's the origin of the cotton supplied with attys by Chinese manufacturers.
Not all cottons are alike and the lower grade once contain chemicals that should not be inhaled and that also give an aftertaste.

Even the highest quality Japanese cotton will give off some cotton taste (that will pass over time).
The more cotton used in your build the longer it will last, that's why it's better to use as little cotton as possible.

Btw, even though the TFV8 has quite a nice RBA optional head, it's not really considered an RTA.

That kind of goes with what I'm saying. I've used a lot of cottons before, and if you make sure to avoid touching it (or use gloves) I never get that "cotton taste" but he said he was new to rebuildables. Most newer builders don't know about that. Even most experienced people as well, they just think their build needs to "break in"

You are correct.
Besides the cotton itself there are many variables that could effect the flavor, but why not just eliminate one variable by using high grade cotton.

honestly i just use regular organic cottonballs from a local store and get great flavors. I don't really understand the hype of special "cotton" like cotton bacon or japanese organic cotton.

Cotton bacon is just easier to use than cotton pads, like rayon. But as long as you're using unbleached, untreated cotton and it works for you, go for it!

I found excellent results using Japanese cotton, and using sharp tweezers and "combing" the cotton to fluff it up. It wicks quicker and the flavor is noticeably better

I tried commercial cotton when it first became popular. Tasted like sucking on a t-shirt to me. I went back to silica. Then 2 years later I tried Muji cotton pads. Now that's all I use.

I have tried all the cotton that is out there on the same RDA native wicks premium blend cotton is automatic flavor no waiting for it to start tasting good after 10 or 15 or 20 vapes, right away. There is a big difference between all the different kinds of cotton out there some take longer to produce flavor some don't even have that much flavor no matter what you do to it believe me I have tried there is a big difference between all the different kinds of cotton out there some take longer to produce flavor some don't even have that much flavor no matter what you do to it believe me I have tried. I'm a flavor chaser I can't taste it I don't want it.

I suppose I am a flavor chaser too. The vapor production means little to me. If anything, it gets in the way because you can't see the keys on the keyboard or play COD with all that vapor blocking the screen :).

I purchased the Cloud Beast because it burns through juice quickly so there is more flavor. Can you direct me to your top one or two cotton types?

Native wicks platinum blend is by far the best cotton out there it's like seven dollars and change for a bag. I promise you will love it. Vapor DNA is where I get it from I just bought four bags couple weeks ago.

For a premium cotton, I have to agree. Far better than Cotton Bacon and I still buy it now and again.

Still love my Koh gen Do though. Inexpensive, wicks great and I do enjoy the ritual of doing the Scottish Roll with it.

Thanks! I will start using it immediately. The cost isn't a huge factor. A little goes a long way, plus I make my own juices from recipes online to cut costs. How many dual coil builds do you think I could get per bag though? I am curious. It says each one has 3.5 feet of cotton, but I don't know the width of the cotton.

Thanks again!

Six dual coil's worth of cotton every time you cut the cotton. A bag of cotton last my wife and I many months and we vape hard.
