Here in Melbourne, Australia, we were locked down for several months.

Lots of people took up baking. Sour dough bread was huge.

Others crafted and painted and sculpted.

I figured a thread to share any and all creative pursuits could be fun.

I actually went to art school, in another time. Galaxy far away. Monash University, then NITA/ANU. But I stopped, for various reasons

Lockdown, I started making people Xmas gifts. It was just 2 little 8x10 inch paintings, of friends deceased dogs

Then, a birthday gift 18x18 inches https://photos.app.******/9soRUWJYu1JA5eHKA

And, I have recently been toying with some abstracts. In the vein of Helen Frankenthaler, Morris Louis, and Mark Rothko. Staining canvas

So, anyone else? Doesn't need to be painted. Just anything, from card making and poems to installation art

I can try to track down some ancient photos. Just huge juvenile bullshit. Biggest was 10 feet tall, 30 feet wide. Smallest was 1/5 inch square.

Best not to dwell on it. My state recorded 1 case this week, and other states closed the border as a result of the 1 case

Hopefully the catalyst to making doesn't side track the thread

We weren't locked down as hard as much of the world. But, I still embarked on some creative journeys.

I took up smoking... no, not that kind... I bought a smoker and began smoking meats, cheeses, and nuts. I built a patio of sorts for the smoker/grill as well. I didn't want to stop cooking once winter set in, so I started making dinners in the kitchen, too... and desserts!

I also returned to practicing calligraphy. Something I had put aside decades ago. Actually sold some my calligraphy, too.

And, my livelihood is making brooms. To offset our potential losses from not going to craft shows, we put our products online last year. They took off! Had our best sales year to date.

I can't post pics as I am using Tapatalk it's misbehaving, but some of my stuff can be found on my Instagram account... @shawnhoefer2

Maybe I'll return to this and post pics later on when software and bandwidth are in alignment.

Those are nice. About the only thing creative been able to do is remodel my mom's old house. Lost her about a year ago and decided to keep her house. Much bigger and newer than mine. Plus I paid it off lol.
Built a custom counter top for the kitchen. Got a bunch of perches and hanging beds for our fur babies still in the works.

Nice. We remodeled our kitchen... sort of... kind of... we ripped out all the wallpaper, and realized the walls were too far gone to sand and paint (it's a very old farmhouse), so we installed gloss white hardboard paneling, and mounted grid wall and adjustable shelving over it. The remodel also included installing a dishwasher, a new gas stove, and sanding and painting all the cupboards and cabinets. The countertops, sadly, haven't been touched.

Very classy, the artful porn third photo up :giggle:

Dang Dog, had no idea you were so talented, on a serious note :) Impressive
Made at a time, when the art world favoured simplicity. So, I rebelled and tried to make a work about everything. All treated equally. Lots of journalling mundane conversation at the bus stop, equal to the twin towers that happened about 1 third in. Equal to porn and quantum physics

In a not High Art medium of grey lead pencils

As I said, juvenile fuck the world stuff

A creative idea I had that I never quite finished...

20210510_121749.jpg

I didn't have access to anyplace where I could get disc brakes / parts during the pandemic. That meant it would only have rear brakes. I equipped it with a 28 speed setup. After being frustrated at not being able to finish this, I sold it today to someone that lives somewhere where they have better access to the parts I cannot get.

Yes, I welded the frame together myself. It is my build.

I finished these up last night. They are much more plain and simple than most knives I made, but they are also the only ones that are of legal length to carry anywhere (5 inch blades). I used steel so hard that even cobalt bits can't drill through it. The oak handles are epoxied on as well as held on with brass pins which are also epoxied in place.

About 4 years ago, I had a bunch of tools that were found after a house fire. Knowing they were no good as tools anymore, my creative side kicked in.

Poodle has to dry a couple of months, prior to glazing darks back, and lifting out white highlights on eye

Blue painting varnished this morning. Probably need another couple of coats to even it out

still a way to go

this morning was mostly background layering
I never thought a painting would take so long to dry as you mentioned in the other post.
How long from start to finish typically, im guessing weather temp and humidity makes a difference.

Oil paint doesn't dry. It oxidises, which a chemical reaction with the air that takes 6 months

That is a long time. I would never have guessed that long.
