Gothic romance film Crimson Peak may have trouble making it to China thanks to the country's "no ghost" rule.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, China censors films that "promote cults or superstition." The supernatural elements in Crimson Peak may not adhere to the rules of Chinese cinema.
Some filmmakers employ tactics such as revealing ghosts as hallucinations or bad dreams at the end of the movie to get around the guidelines.
There is no word yet on what China will decide. It is hoped that Crimson Peak can make up for a lackluster performance at the domestic box office by doing well in China, an increasingly vital movie market.
