Curious about the tongue/taste map?

I still hold loosely to the taste map, but this article brings a rounder perspective. It also might help someone here with their flavor combinations?

Interesting article, Scotty. By way perhaps of substantiation, I had a dentist tell me that when her patients opt (or must receive) for an upper denture in the style that covers the soft palate. it would inhibit their ability to taste food properly. I was surprised the hear that at the time but, thanks to your contribution, less so.

Ok so does that explain why I detest wine and beer?? For me whatever makes each of those what they are I can not stand to taste. Oh and I am also weird because I do not like to vape any real food flavors. Thank You for sharing this information - MarshmallowScotty.

It is certainly indicative of differences in tastes, Dixie. For example, I've not yet found a fruit-based liquid that I like.

You're all welcome... I was looking for something that I thought "should" be found on sites related to cooking, chefs, gourmet, etc. and I knew from school that there was something about a tongue chart. Looks like some scientists debunked that (sort of) but I wish there were something a little more to the science of tastes. This article just happened to be from someone who was into wine tasting- I never did understand that...
