custom make a case for a mod?

Thinking about getting the SMY SDNA 75, but I really wish they made a case for it since I beat the shit out of everything I own. Is there a good way to maybe make a diy case for a box mod that won't royally screw anything up? I was thinking about wrapping it in electrical tape, but making sure to keep all vent holes and where the battery door meets the box itself uncovered for obvious reasons. What kind of alternatives are there that I'm not thinking of?

Depending how rough you are on things, have you considered vinyl wrap? They sell it for automotive and many places sell it in smaller manageable pieces. Carbon fiber is a popular design but there are others. It would act similar to electrical tape but without all the sticky edges. Usually making multiple wraps of electrical tape (at least when I've done it) the edges of the strips where it overlaps tend to peel up some and leave sticky residue.

It'd probably still nick or scratch if it hit something sharp but it doesn't peel up from handling that I've noticed. I've got it on the battery covers of my mod using it every day in the heat of summer, sweaty hands etc and it's not even tried to peel up on me in the past few weeks. There's a variety of colors, patterns from carbon fiber to camouflage, matte, metallic etc.

Not sure how it'd react to the mod but on other metal painted surfaces I've peeled it up and it hasn't taken any of the paint with it. Peels up clean with no residue.

It's more of just keeping it from getting scratched from me putting it in and taking it out of my pocket, keeping it in the front pocket of my forklift at work, the occasional tip over, and maybe dropping it once in a blue moon so yea vinyl wraps should work just fine.

how would it work though being a sheet of vinyl wrap? sounds like it would be kind of a p.i.t.a to do especially for the bottom and top

Just get the Silver one. It would be the least likely to show wear IMO. It's under $50 so even if you get a scratch or 2 is it really that big of a deal. Heck I drive my car on Michigan roads without a wrap on it :p:D:giggle:

PS Maybe check a place like JWraps to see if a wrap for it is out yet if you really want something like that.

Cheers,
Steve
