It's been a rocky few months for Warner Bros.' DC movie lineup, with the lukewarm response to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice casting a shadow over the future of the DC Extended Universe. But things are looking up this week, thanks to the creation of DC Films and the announcement that Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns will be one of two men responsible for overseeing this new branch. Clearly, the hope is that Johns will be able to bring the same magic touch to DC's movie universe that he has with the comic book and TV divisions over the past two decades.
This good news comes at a cost, however. Johns confirmed this week that he's stepping away from writing comics in order to focus on his new film responsibilities. That means for the first time in the better part of two decades, Johns won't be writing a monthly comic at DC. It's a strange thought considering just how integral Johns has been in shaping the voice and direction of DC Comics in its current incarnation. With Johns moving on, the question is now which creators can fill the void he's leaving behind.
