In a lot of ways, “Blood Ties” felt like the unofficial third act of Legends of Tomorrow’s two-part premiere. Not only did the setting stay the same, but this episode focused heavily on various characters coming to grips with their new calling and the challenges and realities of being time-travelling heroes. Fortunately, this didn’t cause the show to lose any of the momentum it built up in its first two weeks.
Early on, it was a little bizarre to see that the show was sticking around in the 1975 time period for the third week in a row. What’s the point of a time travel-based series if the characters never actually travel through time? But even if the calendar didn’t budge, the locales the team visited and the challenges they faced were different enough that “Blood Ties” still felt fresh.
