Dealing with HEAT when charging unprotected 18650's in a Lipo bag

I've purchased a NiteCore D4 charger and I'm using it for the first time today... I also decided to make a health and safely purchase of which was a LIPO Fire Guard bag which allows me to slide the charger and seal the pouch for extra safety.

The problem that I've encountered is the batteries are charging rather warm to hot, here is my configuration:

  • Slot 1: Efest 3.7v 18650 LMR 2100mAh
  • Slot 2: Efest 3.7v 18650 LMR 2100mAh
  • Slot 3: Duracell 1.2v Ni-MH 800 mAh AA
  • Slot 4: Duracell 1.2v Ni-MH 800 mAh AA

Manual Temp Checks first temp is inside bag and then outside bag as 2nd number:

  • Slot 1 - 22c / 17c
  • Slot 2 - 22c / 17c
  • Slot 3 - 32c / 23c
  • Slot 4 - 34c / 23c

Questions:

  • Is there anyway you can reduce heat when charging in a lipo bag
  • is it normal for AA NI-MH to run hot when charging
  • is a 1.2v NI-MH charged at 1.42v and 1.45v on the other battery about right?
  • Will using the lipo bag reduce the life of the batteries if the heat is not addressed?

I dont put my charger in a lipo bag, i do use it for storing batteries long term, but not for charging. I would recommend not charging any form of battery unattended or while sleeping; that way if there is an issue, you can react accordingly. I have also found that my nitecore will not charge AA batteries properly. I left them on for a good while, probably 3 hours, and it never registered as charged. the batteries were at a charged voltage, and extremely warm, but never registered as full.

as far as i know, there is no way to reduce the temperatures inside the bag while charging.

I have no idea if the AA batteries are suppose to get that warm. I just stopped letting them sit on the charger that long.

Extreme heat will decrease the lifespan of any electronics.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.
