Dell, along with MSD Partners and Silver Lake, has bought EMC for $67 billion, making it the largest tech deal in history.

EMC stockholders are set to receive around $33.15 per share in a combination of cash as well as tracking stock linked to EMC's interest in the VMware business. VMware was included in the deal, but will remain an independent, publicly-traded company.

EMC works in data storage, security, analytics, and cloud computing. Dell and EMC combining will make the "world's largest privately-controlled, integrated technology company," according to a statement.

"Our new company will be exceptionally well-positioned for growth in the most strategic areas of next generation IT including digital transformation, software-defined data center, converged infrastructure, hybrid cloud, mobile and security,” said Michael S. Dell.
