NESmaker stopped by the IGN office with an NES development kit -- an unusual occurrence in 2018 -- and asked us to pitch a game to them. We pitched, and, by the end of the day, we were playing our game on a cartridge stuffed into an actual NES.

It was pretty amazing seeing it come together. After our vague "valkyrie vs. space tigers" pitch, we ended up with two rooms of a spaceship, a marauding tiger man with a machine gun, and valkyrie with a laser who could attack and kill said tiger man. It didn't look all that complicated. NESmaker co-founder Austin McKinley designed the graphics and handed them off to fellow co-founder Joeseph Granato IV, who brought them to life.

That's an insanely fast turnaround, even for the most rudimentary of games. But NESmaker isn't looking for your pitches -- they want you to build your own games. The tools they used here in the office are a prototype of what they are offering to their Kickstarter backers (they've been funded).
