Legendary has set a 2019 release date for its live-action Detective Pikachu film.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie will open in theaters on May 10, 2019. Production will begin sometime in mid-January next year in London. Toho will distribute the movie in Japan while Universal will handle the distribution outside of Japan.
Detective Pikachu stars Ryan Reynolds as the titular character, in a role which will involve motion capture in some way. Along with Reynolds, the rest of the reported cast includes Justice Smith (The Get Down) and Kathryn Newton (Big Little Lies).
