determining percentage

I'm sure its a simple calculation, but here goes. If I am adding a flavor that is reported to contain a certain amount of acetoin, lets say .17% and I am adding said flavor at 3% to a mix that has a total volume of 5ml, what would be the acetoin concentration in final mix. For the sake of this mix, I will say that 1ml is equal to 1gm in weight.

I can only hope I asked that the correct way.

No one? Well, this is my thought...if it is 3% of 5mg the flavor % would be .15mg times the amount of acetoin divided by total mg of final mix. So, (.15*.17)/5=.0051

I'm not sure where milligrams come into this, but this is how I work things out... You're close, but you forgot that 0.17% of your flavour is a percentage value:

Flavour ml = juice ml * (flavour% / 100)
Flavour ingredient = flavour ml * (flavour ingredient% / 100)

Ml = (5ml * (3% / 100)) * (0.17% / 100) <- Combined above into one calculation
Ml = (5 * (3/100)) * (0.17/100) <- removed units
Ml = (5 * 0.03) * 0.0017
Ml = 0.15 * 0.0017
Ml = 0.000255ml

I think that should be right!

I meant grams. Was not sure if I should have done it by volume or weight, but your formula makes sense. Thanks.
