Hi - recently bought a Aspire Nautilus 2 tank and eleaf istick tc40w. Bloke in shop rattled thru a load of stuff but i'm new to this so didn't take it all in. He switched some stuff round but I'm not sure what. Noticed last week that it was tasting of burning so thought I'd switch the coil. Noticed that the one I'm putting in has 0.7ohm written on it, the old one had 1.8ohm. I had thought when i bought it it was just a straight replacement. What is the difference between the 2 - pros and cons? Do I need to use different settings? And how often should i replace these coils? Sorry for newbie questions and thanks
The 1.8, and pretty much any other non sub ohm coil (below 1.0ohm), are normally made for MTL (Mouth to Lung) vaping. But they definitely are made to only handle 10Watts or less. The higher the ohm the lower the wattage required to run the coil (especially when it comes to prebuilt coils).
Your 1.8 ohm coil likely has smaller holes in the sides, to reduce the amount of juice (e liquid) flow. Sometimes they do this with the actual metal wall of the coil and other times it is simply done with a non permeable barrier (the material covering the open holes on the side of the coil). This is due to this type of coils inability to vaporize as much liquid (if it had larger holes it would leak)
In other words the 1.8 ohm coil is meant to be run at lower wattage, will work better with a juice that has a higher level of PG (like 50PG/50VG), and doesn't produce as much vapor, which in turn doesn't use as much juice and also has a lot of people use higher nicotine with these coils (With a weaker coil like this we tend to consider a 12mg juice equal to about 3mg when using a sub ohm coil)
The .7ohm is your sub ohm coil. This will have much larger juice openings, is meant to be run anywhere from 15-25 Watts (closer to 15 if using a high percentage VG juice like 80VG/20PG *thick juice) and is the only coil that is really designed to run a high VG juice. It produces much more Vapor, tends to be much warmer and is generally great for desert flavored e liquid. But it uses more of that juice, more of your battery per hit, and will probably leak if you run higher lvl PG juice in it. Hitting the .7 coil MTL with the airflow closed will also cause the coil to be overwhelmed and leak as well.
But the bottom line is this, they ARE plug and play. It is just the wattage you run them at is all you need to change. If you try to use the 1.8 at the wattage level you had your .7 at (20W) you'll burn it. If you do the opposite and use the .7 coil at the 1.8 level (7W) it is unlikely to produce any vapor.
So if you are hitting your Vape like a cigarette, then the 1.8 at 7 Watts is probably the coil for you. If you hit it like a joint or DTL (Direct to Lung) then either way you are fine, but the .7 is probably the better coil for you.
The only reasons why they wouldn't be interchangeable is if you have a very high VG juice (with very low water %) in your tank. This will cause your 1.8ohm coil to likely give you dry (burned) hits, even at very low Wattage.
If you have the opposite and are using a high PG juice in your tank and put the .7 coil in. The tank might leak, but the hit you get will definitely be harsh on your throat.
Well that went on way longer than intended. Hope it helps
