Disney revealed a spinoff to the Cars and Planes film that will be centered around space. During its D23 Expo animation panel, Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios Chief Creative Officer John Lasseter took to the stage to showcase the first footage of the next film set in the Cars universe.
Referring to the brief clip as a "speed test," Lasseter debuted the footage that showcased a handful of planes speeding across the desert, jetting in and out of the Earth's atmosphere. This brief looked emphasized the focus on realistically depicting aviation.
No other details, including an actual title (“It's harder to come up with a title than it is to get to space," Lasseter joked) were released. The film will hit theaters on April 12, 2019.
