DIY Resource Stealing/Plagiarism

Well, there's this fella, Chad Horne (2nd profile here that appears to be the same guy)that is a member of multiple DIY facebook groups who copied my DIY Flavoring Sources spreadsheet without my creative commons copyright-sharealike-with attribute and claimed it as his own work.

He hosted his copy on google docs first, with all my work on this sheet since 2013, all exactly the same as a revision a couple months ago including comments. He pinned "his" resource at the top of his FB JJ Do it yourself E-juice group. He is also an admin of the Facebook group Juice Junkies.

He didn't reply to private messages asking him to please attribute to the original, so I filed a complaint with Google where he was also hosting his copy. Google did a DMCA takedown as my Google Docs creation date of March 2013 was before his of March 2015.

He then posted an excel format of the sheet in his group for download. I downloaded it. It's the exact same sheet that got DMCA'd. I asked him to attribute to the original, and he said that he's the original author. I mentioned that copy-pasting something does not an original author make as all the entries were in the same order, same abbreviations, same pricing structure, and all the vendor notes were worded exactly as my notes. He then of course dumped me from the group and blocked me.

As a warning to others, this individual has no problem claiming other peoples work as his own and then lying about it. If he's in any of your groups or forums, he may steal your work too.

Unknown what he goes by on here or if he is on VU. Anyone know? 1st image is download of "his" copy. 2nd image shows example of of original-same order, same comment/note wording. 3rd image shows Google's revision history showing start date of doc in 2013 and google logs every single change and addition I've made since then which proved ownership for the DMCA takedown to happen.

Wow, that really stinks.

I never got why people want to steal other folks work and call it their own. Not like they can be proud of it or anything.

Remember that Karma will catch up with him sooner or later.

I know it will happen, but most people aren't like this guy and I enjoy helping others with DIY where I can. Resources like this were pretty scarce when I started out so I want others to have as many resources as possible to keep them off the stinkies. Just calling out bad behaviour when seen sometimes changes that person's behaviour. Most people try to avoid getting a bad reputation.

In his group in his sidebar he says 'Do not make a recipe that is posted to sell without first asking the owners permission. It's bad form, and eventually you will get caught." I guess it's only unethical to copy someones work if you make money off it.

Funny thing is, he could really score more points by just saying, "Hey, look at this cool stuff I found made by this guy here!" And give him credit. Trying to be a Big Shot only made him a Piss Pot.

All a creative commons cc is is to let folks know that hey, original content digital stuff is copyrighted too and you should be a decent bloke and credit the original author. Yes, he could do the same, either way there isn't much I can do about it except call out bad behaviour since I'm not about to sue or lawyer up over a spreadsheet. Even without the cc license displayed, anybody's original work is automatically copyrighted- but with any copyright, the burden of proof is on the author and however far the author is willing to take it.

My first husband is a composer. He had stuff actually filed with the copyright office that got stolen- One was by the organization that had contracted "use of" of the music for 365 days for commercial advertising, and the contract stated if used after that, they would have to purchase the copyright at xxxxx dollars. When we called his agent to notify him of the contract violation 13 months after the start date of the contract, we found that the agent was using some of his copyrighted music on his frelling answering machine without permission. We were broke and didn't have the cash to sue the 2 violators either, so it was tough shit for us. Still, in both cases we let the composer community know about what happened and with whom- so that they could take minimal precautions in dealing with those entities in the future.

my point is that there are better cw than what you have it as right now..
and to secure it better would be a good thing, however its all up to you..
you read the comments on fb and you saw the outcome of whats happened..
its not the first time.. anyways..

was actually hoping there could be a good work around for recipes.. but there really isnt..
if i cant feel like i am safe sharing a recipe.. I just wont post it. its not worth the drama in the end.
