DNA250 battery meter not showing full

On my new Lost Vape Drone, the batteries are fully charged but the meter / indicator thingy only shows 3/4 full. If I plug it to a USB charger, it's not charging. So it knows the batteries are full, but the bar won't show 100%. Other than that, it seems to work fine.

I believe it's just a meter display issue - probably Evolv trying to make it more clever than just showing a battery charge once again. But just in case: is this a known issue?

You have to find the proper battery download..check out the evolve site...they have them specific for different MAH ratings..Kind of a pain in the ass to have to change it with different batteries but it is what it is...Your mod is ok though.

@Wingsfan0310 would know. I know that several batteries are listed, I use LG HG2 in my DNA250 devices because they are on the list and read correctly without having to mess with the battery setting.

What batteries are you using? You need to set the Watt Hours to the correct value in the Mod Tab of Escribe. Also make sure you have it set to Maximum Puffs. Check the Device monitor to make sure your cells are actually at 4.2v each.

Cheers,

I use Samsung 25R. I tried 2 pairs fresh from my charger this morning. They were 4.20V alright.

But I didn't have time to deal with that this morning (nor did I want to, incidentally) because I had to set off on a 4-hour drive to go see a customer. So I grabbed the mod and vaped it in the car, keeping an eye on the battery indicator. After about 2 hours, it was showing half-way empty, then it suddenly jumped back to 3/4 full. Now it seems to work normally.

Looks like a firmware bug to me. It wouldn't be the first time I've had issues with the battery indicator on a DNA board. I wish Evolv would stop trying to make the damn thing more clever than it needs to be, and showed a vague indication of the remaining charge based solely on the voltage, like all other chipsets do. I mean, only DNA boards manage to turn such a stupid feature into a minor headache: with any other mod, you throw any old batteries in it and it Just Works[tm]...

It is kinda annoying to an extent regarding the necessity of watt hours, but I think that was likely implemented due to LiPo batteries. I think the 200 was only meant to be used with LiPos initially, I may be wrong. I know there wasn't reverse battery protection like on the 250.

My Triade 250 is the only one I have that reaches 100% before it's finished charging. I have one charge screen set to display all 3 battery voltages, the other set to usb current, amperage, and %. So I just know I have to look at the screen with the battery voltages displayed in order to charge fully in the mod. Since that has 2 amp charging, I do charge them in the mod almost always.

@Wingsfan0310 I blame you... Lol. I'm using your profile, slightly edited presets by me but your profile for the HG2's. So Steve, I blame you...

My Triade 250 is my only DNA I've had something like this occur on, I could try to do updates etc... but it's perfectly fine, so I don't mind. I get no errors, I just have to know to look at the correct charging screen... no biggie. I'd not be saying that about most mods, but I don't really charge anything aside from internal batteries in non triple 18650 DNA mods. I trust their chip, I have many and they're yet to let me down regarding charging safely.

@Giraut Aside from the battery meter, how do you like it? I'm interested in that one. I haven't heard too much besides pre-release stuff that was going on. That thing looks nice.

The Watt Hours for two 25R"s is 18.5. You can either make sure it's set correctly or live with an inaccurate battery meter. I was just trying to help you.

I appreciate the help, don't get me wrong :) I'm only slightly miffed at Evolv: I've had to deal with the original DNA40's shenanigans - including the nonsensical battery meter. Then I bought 2 DNA75 devices which never had any issues. So I figured they had sorted out their shit once and for all, and I bought this DNA250 mod in full confidence that it'd work as well as my DNA75 boxes. Only it turns out it doesn't - quite.

I understand that I may (probably - possibly) fix this minor issue by configuring the thing in Escribe. But the thing is, I shouldn't have to: again, even the stupidest Chinese manufacturer manages to make mods that have working battery meters, that you don't have to think twice about. Why do Evolv boards keep springing that sort of idiocy on the users? HOW HARD CAN IT BE TO MAKE A BATTERY METER THAT WORKS WITHOUT USER INTERVENTION???

But then, user intervention might not be enough. I'm fairly sure it's a firmware bug. Why? Because the battery indicator worked fine for a few days, then quit working for half a day, then suddenly started working again without warning this morning. Now it's fine - until it isn't anymore I guess...

I like it a lot, but I don't love it.

Let me explain this: I like it like one likes a Volvo without even knowing it: it's well designed and dependable, so you end up using it without thinking about it, like it was totally natural to have something that just works properly.

I have mods that I love when they work, and that I love to hate when they don't - like one loves an older Alfa Romeo, to reuse the car analogy. But The Drone ain't one of them: it's a dependable workhorse that looks nice enough to be likable, but essentially is there to gets the job done.

In the end, I think I prefer to like a Volvo than love an Alfa, if that makes any sense...

Aside from the battery meter bug - which I don't really care about ultimately, as long as it doesn't cut my vaping time - its fire button is a little hard, and the squonking window could be a tad larger. It is on the heavy side too, but personally I like heavier mods. Aside from that, nothing to report. The Volvo works well.

I like the Volvo analogy. I'm in the U.S., but I am a rabid REAL, as in Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May, Top Gear fan. So, I definitely know the conundrum of an Alfa... So beautiful, but broken all the time, lol. I've owned a Volvo, so I read you loud and clear. I just don't have a squonker yet, and I NEED ONE. LOL.

Sometimes a Volvo is nice, especially the Turbos. I'm guessing the DNA may qualify for a Turbo Volvo... LOL.
