DNA250 charging issue

I have several custom DNA250 Mods. I have a very high end usb charger. They are Lipo of course. I have tested the charger and it will put out 5A on all 7 ports at once. All the Mods are by different makers. They all start out at 2A. After about Ten minutes every one of them, even my mass produced Mods drop to .57A. Is there some setting in Escribe that I need to tweak or something? I have never noticed this because I did not have a charger with a display. Then just to confirm I set the screen on the Mods to show charging current. I do not know what is going on but the charger is working. I do not understand how all these different Mods are doing this. I would think Escribe would be properly set by at least one of them if that is the issue. Also I have probably the best cables there are. Thanks

I have different wall warts and cords some do 2amp some do not. I just found the ones that do and use them. As far as setting in escribe I don't know of any.

Have you updated the chip I think? I seem to remember there being an issue with the DNA at first with charging.

I confirmed with dummy load and DVM that the high end 7 port charger will indeed provide 5A to all 7 ports at once. I have updated to latest Firmware on all. They have different batteries but not garbage like FullyMax. Like Turnigy and stuff. I will just ask Brandon instead of even bother with the forum on Evolv. I thought this might be a known flaw so I was just checking here. I know this is not the place for advanced troubleshooting.

Yeah I will. It might take a bit. At least I know him but obviously he is very busy. Now, I do not understand this but I bet he will. I watched it for a while and it is constantly changing. It is down to .56 for a fraction of a second and then up to .1.97 and anywhere inbetween but constantly changing. It is up high enough of the time that I am still getting a rather rapid charge but I do not think this is normal. For the first 10 minutes or so it is at a solid 2.0A. It might be that with Lipo's it is thermally throttling. Lipo's are much more advanced than Primaries with the Balance connection. I could not imagine that $30 100MAH batteries are throttling at 2.0A though. It is beyond me and probably most of you(no insult meant). I bet either Brandon will know or he will not spend much time on it. It could be the charger after for some other reason or just some setting somewhere. I have no idea. I will go Email him and just wait. This is something most of us, including myself would not know I admit. Meanwhile I will pull out some batteries and put them right on the charger to see what happens.

Answer. Even my good batteries are thermal throttling. or rather causing the DNA board to decide they are getting too hot and buck them. This is because my batteries are too small for 2.0A charging. The rule of thumb is 1A for every 1000 MAH under 2000 MAH. Under 1000 MAH must charge at .5A properly. It is okay, but I am abusing my batteries and they will not last as many cycles. You have to be at 2000MAH or above to charge at 2A. The reason they did this is because companies were using 18650's or larger Lipo's. So I set mine correctly in Escribe and it stays exactly where it should. That proves this. To further prove it I charged a Triade 3x3000MAH 18650's at 2A and it stayed at @A for most of the duration except ramp up and ramp down at 4.0V. 950MAH might handle 1A but you are still abusing it. I do not like big Mods so I have 950MAH and 1300MAH. For what most of you are using 2A will not be an issue. How Vapor Shark does it with a 10WH battery is simply BS. If you watched it is throttling. Especially with that cheap battery. Simply put if you push it too hard and get it hot enough the DNA is smart enough not to allow an explosion. Lipo's especially are very dangerous if misused. That is why they are charged in a fireproof bag when done with an external charger. So to counter this the DNA will protect it. Still not wise. The reason it keeps going up and down is because Lipo's cool very quickly if not allowed to get to high of a charge to begin with. Put it on a R/C charger for a 950MAH battery at 15A and Kaboom. AT just 2A it will reach that, quickly cool and repeat. Meanwhile destroying the Small cells. With most Mods that have a 250 they tend to have big enough batteries or 18650's so 2A is fine. The VS is a different story. Unless they have some type of secondary charging daughterboard as opposed to the DNA. Of course they would like you to buy new batteries all the time. I just went ahead and set mine properly. Honestly batteries that small charge fast enough at 1A anyways. 2A is going to be nice with 3000MAH+ so you are not sitting instead of vaping. The smaller battery actually will be done charging sooner at 1A due to the much lower capacity. Simple mathematics there.
