Square Enix has provided an update on the status of Dragon Quest XI, confirming the game's story is nearly finished.
During today's Dragon Quest 30th Anniversary Project Presentation (via Gematsu), series creator Yuji Horii discussed the studio's progress, noting the first section of the game is in a playable state. Thanks to the RPG's large scope, however, Dragon Quest XI still requires quite a bit more development time.
According to Horii, Square Enix is aiming to release the title in Japan sometime during the year of Dragon Quest's 30th anniversary, which means the publisher is hoping to have the game out sometime between May 27, 2016 and May 27, 2017.
