I spent around $13K to build it, my mom lived in it for 21 years and we sold it recently for $50K. Not too bad in my opinion :shades:

Wife's granddad (PawPaw2) helped our neighbor T -- build their two story farm house. He said there was only around $2,500 in it, material wise. Hard to tell how much of a labor cost it would have been if outside contractors did it. T -- now owns an electrical supply company, half of it anyway. His wife sold an old feed store in town. He had bought it for her. The guy is likely now running in the millions. PawPaw2 knew T -- could get around $150,000 out of the home up there. He has two barns, the house, land and livestock, only improved a little on the house since it was built, I think they poured a slab porch on one side.

Went thru everything with my sis passing away only to have my hernia's kick my ass last couple days. Tonight is the first time I was able to eat anything solid in the last 48 hours.

That gives me a clue then. Father in law has been having trouble swallowing to eat. I might want to mention he oughta ask the docs about hernias. Did not think of that. Thought of the stress he's facing with the other son in law.

He's got a conveyor up yon to set up a way to pile firewood, instead of us old fogies needing to bend and rick. He's got some tables, old supermarket display carts, he's wanting to set up a swivel for a chain saw. Push logs over with conveyor let someone lift saw, set it down and cut 17" logs each time, then get a load up to split, run the conveyor over to pile. I can halfway see what he's got going on in his head.

He thought the other son would be of help though, matter of fact kind of expected it. We know how that goes. So that's a pain in his ass. Then, every time he wants to come over and round me up to help, well, look out. Know that song too.

Her dad has told me that if his other son in law doesn't help do firewood this year, all that wood can lay to rot. He'll have a guy deliver a couple pickup loads already cut, knows a guy who has a boy in FFA and is cutting wood as a business for that. I think it'd be a shame because he's paid some good money and worked out some precarious horse trading to get equipment, logs.

Here it seems I've run out on life's troubles yet again. Stepdad was an ahole, I go away. Her bro in law an ahole, we go away. Shameful keeping the peace doesn't help get shit done but it's always the only choice I'm left to take. Ah well, I better get coffee and go look at the political silliness, then go piddle. Hm, yep might need to eat as well.

.

Sorry buddy, trouble swallowing has nothing to do with hernias. Not abdominal hernias at least. Something else causing him to have troubles swallowing.

I know what ya men about useless so called "family" who is never there when help is needed. The ex mom called me the best son she never had for over 30 years which really pissed her 3 sons off. :teehee: Two of them are dead from OD's, both which happened in their moms house kinda proved beyond any doubt what total pieces of shit they really was. Yet it is what it is. Its the world we live in and ya can only do the best that you can do and not worry about anyone else.

Filter capacitor.

Atchaffy, you suprise me :p Not many know a capacitor can be used as a filter too.

Electric motors can cause radio interference. If you ever rode around in a car and the radio had a background static that changes with the engine RPM then more than likely putting a capacitor on the alternator will make the radio interference disappear. We use to do that all the time at work. If the pilot squawked about his radios having a lot of static, the first thing to look at is usually does it have a capacitor on the starter/generator and is it ok. Found many with broken wires. Replace them and problem solved.

Exactly what I thought, that phrase makes no sense language-wise, whatsoever.

Andria

It makes perfect sense, if ya speak the language :p

When I worked as a line mechanic every once in a while I would do something like that when the lead mechanic had me pissed off :teehee: Part of a lead mechanics job is to read the write ups we put in the logbooks to make sure all bases was covered and everything was legal for flying. I would make such a highly technical write up in real small print writing that it would give him a head ache reading it and not a damn thing he could do about it other than cuss me out for it :giggle:

I've always thought it was fun to discuss the technicalities of computers, with all the many acronyms, around people who are PC-illiterate. They get this glazed look in their eyes after about the 5th alphabetic acronym. :giggle:

"Look it up in FOLDOC or query VERA. Your worst case? You might need to do $man program name, or, $info program name."

That usually gets blank stares returned to me and, "speak English much?"

And that's why a lot of times, I don't chime in to offer computer help. That combined with my effort to get people to use DuckDuckGo as a search engine rather than Google, seems to exile me into some bizarro land of computing kooks that practice arcane arts like ASM and coding in binary.

You clearly know a lot more technicals of whatever language that is, than I've ever imagined. I know DOS, and nowadays, Windows... but even those, as widespread and common as they are, elicit many ignorant comments like "How do you know all this stuff?" from some of my family members. I just give 'em a blank look and say "I use a PC, and I PAY ATTENTION." *shrug* They still seem to find something mystical in something that billions use daily.

Binary was first created by Lord Bacon, who first proposed it as a means of writing ciphers. His system used AB BA and had letters corresponded accordingly to a key which got shared between two parties communicating in secret. It later came into computing as 1s and 0s as 1 being the state of on, 0 being the state of off or it'd be True or False. The on and off goes back to electrical current & despite my best efforts I cannot ever get anyone to buy into my theory of "neutral". They always run me off with grumblings. "It's on or off, nothing more or less," they rage.

Hexadecimal is counting by a base of 8 or 16, can never recall which. It corresponds to data bits and bytes, 7 bytes per one written character plus an eight bit of control data. The latter A for example is 7 bytes plus another byte to tell the machine it's lower case or upper, or upside down or sideways. So you get three off and three on bytes to display the A on a screen plus an extra that does nothing but ensures continuity.

"All is number and number is all," as Pythagoras famously stated even we the human being are numbers as we're energy beings tethered to mass which is itself energy too, as Einstein shows us. I'm not good at all with math, unless I let myself be tricked into sorting a problem out, as in sorting out how to read blueprints and figure up materials, volumes, void spaces, and so on that is called Trigonometry. I think Trigonometry is Calculus, Algebra, Geometry all combined to use as a functional language for making algorithms (formulas for solving problems, or apple pie recipes).

I bring a lot of other various together, literature, history, facts, Natural Law, common sense, connection of dots (the uncanny ability to understand how a butterfly flapping its wings in 4th century China has caused Hurricane Florence today), cooking, sewing, fishing. This tends to make folks look at me like :huh:o_O:crazy:, and get mad that I am weak at math, depth perception, spatial relationships, social skills, decisiveness, focus, self discipline. Hence, I laugh and say fuck the Bozos.

Excuse me, my Witch is home and she's trolled out food that is poisoned especially for me. :)

Hex is base 16... which, strangely, doesn't trouble me at all; I learned it 30 yrs ago when I first started playing with DOS, and I became quite adept with DOS's segmented addressing, doing such things as using a special util to peer into the memory between 640 and 1024 to find where various device drivers had loaded, and then moving them to new addresses via QEMM in config.sys, to eliminate system conflicts. Now I use hex merely for color codes, as in HTML or when using photoshop, but I seem to have far less problem with that than a lot of others do. My son is a math WHIZ, taking calculus and tutoring his classmates in it, but show him some hex color codes and his eyes cross. :giggle:

I think I'd have more trouble with octal (base 8). I never could do shit with binary. It seems like, I find bases greater than 10, which use letters, no trouble, but anything less than base 10, just makes me crazy.

Welcome to VU where ya have the right to say just about anything ya want, any way ya want. The mods are cool here and care less what ya say as long as its not harassment or trolling.

Even harassment is ok -- Steve harasses me all the time, mostly I just ignore it. :giggle:

I think I'd have more trouble with octal (base 8).

Permission in Linux/Unix can often be set using octal notation. For example a file marked 700 in Linux/Unix is a totally private file to its owner. One marked 777 is open to anyone & everyone. The first number is for the owner, second number for group, third for world access. Root is the administrator account in the *nix world so they might have a file marked 7 for the owner and 1 for users to execute the file if a program or script and 0 for world access. That could let users of the system run cron tasks, or tasks run at regular intervals such as ReMoving files from their personal trash bins, cleaning up all cache and temp files every night. Cron is simply like Batch scripts, you list commands for the computer to do but at set times, this allows for more automation.

Bash is the common/standard command interpreter for most distributions of *nix. Some like using Cshell, or KornShell, Zshell, for the most though Bash is straight forward and general purpose, "it just works". Linux or Unix is just the kernel, or command processor. A kernel takes commands from a slew of different computing languages and ensures it translates them into asm and compiles them for the hardware to compute. I once met a guy that got driven insane from coding in asm, which is assembly or raw machine language. He told me his code needed to be absolutely perfect all the way through, without any ambiguity. He began thinking like that and it caused a psychotic break in him.

I've dilly dallied about with some minor asm, but have no desire to bother coding in it. I like Lisp, or C, or a private prototyping language I use. Not actually formally programmed much, though I've done a few neat hacks here and there just as being outside fresh eyes and seeing yet again .... another way to skin a cat. Mathematicians got mad at me for suggesting not using numbers to create encryption algorithms, they huffed and puffed with platitudes of "it must be numbers", and so I quit offering such advice.

So, ...

Mornin fugee's and GFY :)

Yesterday I get a call "come get this little bastard that just pissed on my floor"..... Jeez, he has only been there ten days and was suppose to stay two weeks. She is always running here there and everywhere and he is home alone most of the day and does not like being alone. The I go outside and the car battery is dead. Haven't drove it in about a week and guess when I closed the trunk it partially latched but not enough to kill the light. When it rains it pours. So I go back in a grabbed the keys to her old truck that was here and drove that over to pick up Rascal.
I get over there and they didnt hear me pull up so when I walked in, Rascal went totally nuts. My god he was acting crazy with me being there and wanting us to go as soon as I go there. I think maybe the lil shit head pee'd on his mommy's floor just so I would go pick him up. Brought him home but she said I needed to punish him so I told him he was a bad doggy and then we ordered pizza for dinner (his favorite) :giggle:

I really think you need to punish HER, like, by not allowing your baby to go somewhere that he's so sadly neglected and apparently abused for being a dog. If you leave a DOG alone indoors for any length of time, THEY'VE GOT TO DO THEIR BUSINESS SOMEWHERE!!!!!! How in the hell did you ever get roped in by a woman this stupid???

I haven't really done much nor learned much about *nix, other than a few things about dealing with the hosting server when I had a website... But I did a little bit of designing for Windows-server/dot-Net/.ASP systems, so got a little familiar with the idea of permissions. I was designing templates for use with the Mojo CMS. At first it was like trying to learn greek or russian or chinese, but after I got a little bit of familiarity, I kinda liked it. Unfortunately, that was right during the recent "OMFG the economy's in meltdown" and I had to let my .NET hosting go. But I did have a little fun with it, while it lasted.

For you Andria, doing a nix/unix/linux would be no problems. with you doing basic and much more, you would have no problems. If you ever did, with your PC knowledge, I really doubt in a years time that you would ever boot into your windows partition again.

The main reason I don't do it is because of Windows apps -- Photoshop, particularly. I've tried GIMP, and compared to photoshop, IT SUCKS!

I used to be like, once I learned a certain thing on PCs, well I was ready to move on to the next thing and learn that. I guess I've gotten lazier, or just old and set in my ways, because I feel like I've invested all this time and effort learning Windows to a nicety, I don't wanna have to start all over and learn a whole new way to do things.

if I do decide to learn a whole new thing, I'm thinking it will probably be Java, for designing mobile apps; that seems to be where a large part of the computing industry is heading. I've got a couple books on it, but haven't taken the time to even figure out what kind of editor/environment I need to install on the PC in order to do anything with Java. It's definitely on my "round tuit" list. ;)

I been thinking on this a while and no, I cant say she abuses him. She doesnt spoil him like I do but he adores her and isnt afraid of her a bit. We have had dogs in our house as long as I can remember. A pet becomes family to us, like our kids and they are always well treated. For the last three decades I worked away from home a week or two and even a few times three weeks away from home at a time. I was always gone more during the year than I was at home. She also worked and if her painting job was close to home she would run at lunch time to let them go outside to do their business. Other times if her job was far away they would stay in the house, in the air conditioning all day alone and seldom was there ever an accident. So yesterday was either an accident because something is wrong with him or he threw a tantrum like a kid does and pets do throw tantrums. I gotta say she had every right to be mad at him and thats the rub. When she is mad holy crap, I now have to listen to the mouth. But I seriously doubt if she did anything other than threaten and tell him he was a bad dog. And of course tell me he needed punishing :p

Let's hope it was just a tantrum and there ISN'T anything wrong with him!!!

I think Annabel is finally over her finicky stomach issues; she hasn't barfed in quite a while now. I really think the whole issue was just the being spayed AND having the entire immunization protocol all at once, when she was only 3 months old. She's finally putting on enough weight to not look sickly, and really is the cutest little devil-cat EVER. :D Tuxie just thinks she's the devil's daughter. :giggle:

Sorry buddy, trouble swallowing has nothing to do with hernias. Not abdominal hernias at least. Something else causing him to have troubles swallowing.

I know what ya men about useless so called "family" who is never there when help is needed. The ex mom called me the best son she never had for over 30 years which really pissed her 3 sons off. :teehee: Two of them are dead from OD's, both which happened in their moms house kinda proved beyond any doubt what total pieces of shit they really was. Yet it is what it is. Its the world we live in and ya can only do the best that you can do and not worry about anyone else.
I just can't even fathom in my mind what a difficult life you have had. I really hope things get better choppy

I dont know Atchaffy, I kinda think I had an amazing life and am not done yet :p

Look at it from my point of view. I got to spend a 30 year career playing with helicopters. How cool is that! I lived for years on an offshore platform screwing with anyone who annoyed me and they absolutely loved me. How cool is that. I been to over 3/4 of the nation and around 1/2 of the nation I rode thru on two wheels camping the whole way. How cool is that. And I am a certified pilot. Now thats cool as shit :p To add icing to the cake, I retired at 51 and have no financial worries. I lived an amazing life and there is many more things I want to do. I have been very blessed my whole life. Sure there is some real fucked up shit back there. Had a pops who like to drink a wee bit too much every night and seems to take pleasure in taking his belt off and coming after me. So what. Yeah my own family life kinda ended up in a shambles. So what. I always figured you had to have some bad in order to appreciate the good and I never liked dwelling on the bad. :) Anyway I look at it, I had an amazing life!

But I did have a little fun with it, while it lasted.

I'm glad you enjoyed the experience.

I've been using duck for a while. I also had to program in HEX. You're kind of like an old-school coder in a young body LOL

Hehe. Yep, that's me. I've a strange mindset of going backwards in time, in a way. Like the idea of,

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

and

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
. ( Citing:
Bill of Rights and Later Amendments )

There's other ideas there I like as well. I also was taught in public schools no less, by teachers that had grown up and learning and teaching the trivium & quadrivium. They also saw a need of of what is called polymaths in society, which has naught to do with mathematics but rather the combining of various studies and ways of thought.

Most importantly one teacher made a lot of difference. At the very first class of his students attend he stands at a podium and stomps his foot loudly, "Think damn you! Okay, my job is done, now yours starts." He then goes and sits at his desk. His class was on world history. He didn't teach history though. Instead his focus was to teach us to think, to not take manufactured opinions as fact. The school board often watched his classes like hawks.

Also had folks that grew up during the thirties tell me about how stuff used to be. Had a grandfather tell of how in 1933 the government came to his dad's farm, home and took all the gold and silver his dad had got. He asked his dad why he was giving away their gold, the dad explained they should always trust the government. We can all now see what the IMF, Federal Reserve, World Bank has created. Sorry, I don't wear a tin foil hat because I know tin foil aids microwave radio waves in boiling out brains but I'd not mind hiding out in a Faraday cage. ;) :)

At any given, ... got an application for a janitor position at our local public library yesterday. Need to set with wife later and let her fill it out for me. Writing by freehand in my hand is atrocious, even printing and not cursive looks worse than doctor's scrawling. It is that way in part on purpose from me, rather not have public documents which could be pressed to identify me or used against me, in part I just never took great interest in handwriting courses. So, she handles my writing. I could let a mate do so in the military, within reason and I could even get by with just a mark if need be. Yep, I'm one of those, "you sign it for me" type of guys. :)

Point me to the work, tell me / show me what you want done, turn me loose to do and I do. That's fairly straightforward to me. I might need someone to give me a prioritized list to start out on a job but after a few weeks I get it, I get most of it in less than 48 hrs.

Well, reckon it's :coffee: time. The doc yesterday wants me switching to injected testosterone again, with nurses signing off on giving the shots. *chuckles* I guess I've leveled out on it because my levels blood wise were lower than my last, I have been taking it. The pharmacist agreed and cited weight gain and other factors, metabolism and such. But nah, I don't know crap about crap.

Back in the Church of Rayon wick the vaper of Magic Mists finds himself. :cloud: :cloud: :cloud: Hm, cleaner taste than cotton. Know that makes sense, but for me. :) Y'all run 'er slow & GFY at least once today.
    As always, ya y'kow what to do with extras.

Rayon is a false god.

That is true. It does go nice with 26 awg SSL * 2 wrapped with 32 awg A1 Kanthal as a fused Clapton coil, though. I gave that 7 twists around a 3 mm ID and kept it spaced out as a long macro coil in the Gorge deck. It's hitting around 0.30 highest and 0.28 lowest on the el-cheap-o ohm meter I got. The meter took a bit of a bump so it fluctuates a bit like that on its own now. I take responsibility for the bump, dropped it while unsuccessfully juggling coil building, chain saw ice sculpting, doing yoga, figuring out means to ingress and egress from a bank undetected, planning evasive maneuvers from law enforcement, making green eggs and ham, getting mind twisted by Olgden Nash. Nah, not busy at all. ;) :)

PS: Pap, I buried the money by the tracks where we usually put out the Spring garden. I'd be there to help harvest but it seems the cops are reading all my communications. At least they'd never suspect I'd put it by the airport on that road.

Hinky shit, at least they (Time) admits it was propaganda material. And they've removed the law forbidding government from openly lying to the public, now. Now, the government can in fact publicize that they are not spraying down your house with napalm, never mind the sudden gust of warm air you feel, or as POTUS Obama demonstrated "no need for concern over Fukuyama nuclear reactor leaking radiation, no. You can smile and deflect radiation."

Oh I get such a good chuckle out of these zany politic types. They are so blessed with knowledge, it boggles my mind to contemplate how I ever could be able to attain such an intellect. :) Bah! Horsewhip 'em all and hang 'em high enough to avoid stinking up the side walks, might do some good. (To clarify that is not a threat, it is simply the rambling musing of a curmudgeonly crank. There's no intent behind it nor any ill will despite its seemingly ominous overtones.)

Had a doc appointment last Friday. I had to get a bone density x-ray battery done Thursday. The doc on Friday was supposed to have at least mentioned the results of that testing. He didn't get to it though.

He seemed to be upset about my testosterone level being lower than my last testosterone level. He went as far to say he doubted I was using my gel. I've been more and more on the ball about using specifically because I keep getting nagged to use it, so I told him honestly I had been using. Oh such a rage then. He was so sure I had not.

So, he wants me switched back to injections with a nurse signing off on having dispensed each time. I also need to do my blood work lab testing a bit different, fast from 8 PM and get the testing done no later than 8 AM sharp & again I need someone signing off on it. Well, we spoke to the pharmacist at Kroger. She agreed I might have leveled off on the testosterone.

She also told us that Medicaid requested the injections gets approved prior to them paying for it. The doc has to call it in to them and clear it, that is if they'll pay and in fact they might not as Kallmann Syndrome could be classified as pre-existing and not applicable for treatment by any insurance. This was all to be discussed and figured out today. Yet another thing in my life beyond my keen to control.

Gee, I didn't ask to be born with Kallmann's, but obviously I got to suffer possible weird stuff happening if I cannot get help affording medicine for it. Sure. I want to have rubber baby bones. I can then go around breaking them and having them set all wonky, call it walking human art.

Friday too, Chris, my wife, saw an ad for a job opening at the library. It's for being a janitor. Not really the most glamorous or most Earth shattering job of importance. No matter to me, it's at least some extra money for us, for me. That is if I can manage to get the job. The supervisor is coming back Wednesday & will review applications and decide then. The application will stay on file for at least six months. Maybe their first pick/s won't work out.

That's been my Monday, needing to wait on others to do what they need to do. I have a lot of those times in life. Also do have times to me at least, it seems I've chosen keeping the peace over being confrontational and solving problems. Not sure that has always been the better strategy. Seems I wind up swallowing a lot of pride, regret, sorrow, anxiety over things and then am told that I acquiesced and that means I've no right to discuss it further.

I understand that point of reference but for my life, can't help but think it's wrong. A person ought naught have to live by the whims of others, simply because they get passionate over things. Then, too I consider the fear that happens at times around me. It is almost tangible and I don't consciously try to scare folks. I'm just naturally scary for being filled with power behind the passion I reckon. Everybody guides the bull on down the street, far away from the china shop.

Oh well, the blue flowers on the plates probably stink anyway.

You only live by the whims of others when you allow that to happen. No one can dictate to you what you can and can not have an opinion or say on. Nothing is preventing you telling anyone who tries to keep you down where to go, how to get there and what they should do when they arrive.

Nothing wrong with being a janitor in a library or anywhere. A library would be fun to work in. Always loved books :p

Nope, not saying being a janitor has anything wrong at all. In fact I figure it is probably about the best I'm suited to doing anymore. Wife made a good point too. "You've cleaned my house and kept it nice this past year. you may as well work and get paid to do what you're already doing," she told me. And yes, being a janitor is definitely honest work, more honest by far than a politician. :)

What was grating me, the whole keeping the peace & feeling like then it was figured I had no right to say anything.

You only live by the whims of others when you allow that to happen.

Yes. I need to remember that a lot more in life. I need to find means where I can stand up to what I see as being wrong, take charge, set the example and still remain pleasant and civil doing so. I'm worse than a Marine DI though once I'm started. "What's your excuse for fucking over your life, your girls lives, your wife's life with that damn m*th shit," I was afraid I was going to bellow at my brother when we went to my grandma's funeral. Almost did once, wife caught me contemplating it and steered me toward food.

Have damn near let into cussing out her brother in law too. Her granddad's place has gone to shit. Her dad needs all kinds of help. *sighs* "Not our circus, not our monkey," she tells me. She said the last straw was the bro in law trying to get her Rodeo blazer unstuck from the snow and crashing it into the pole in the barn. He never even apologized. I was there and told him to leave it. Nah, he had to go show me how big and great of a driver he was. Of course, he never said that in words but so spoke his actions.

Chris wasn't going to take her vehicle out. She used her dad's taxi service instead. She had already been up, spun out on the snow, looked it over and let it set. I knew it frustrated her but knew she'd get her dad to take her in, come get her. She had left the keys in it because I told her me and her dad might, or might not get to digging it out. We had other stuff to tend to doing as well, not like we had put her off just to put off.

I just seem to walk into shit storms like that. Seem to always come back around to the same kind of situation. Each time I choose keeping the peace instead of confronting the problem. Possibly, I fear being too blunt, clumsy, neanderthal in how I'd confront and solve solve something. I don't know, I just veer and err on keeping the peace. Then I'm stuck recalling it and seeing I might have done more to fix whatever, and say something, or fuss about someone acting this or that way.

Well piss, ... I need some :coffee: and then to get to housework.

There are those who really understand how a computer works and those who do not.
I mean down to logic level CPU functions.
How binary numbers are added. subtracted, divided,
I learned on Computers made mostly out of 7400 series chips and magnetic core ram Pre-micropressor and RAM memory days.

Programming them in pure machine language.
